My friend recently bought a Winchester model 92 in 32/20. Serial # 3891xx. Ahead of the bottom of the receiver are the numbers 77 84 and under the 77 are the numbers 42. Can you tell us any of the information you might have available on DOM and what these numbers mean?? Thank you in advance.

Made early in 1907. The other numbers are an inspectors stamp made during assembly.

The other set of numbers are unlikely to be inspector stamps. I have never seen an original Winchester Model 1892 (or 1894) with more than one 2-digit inspector stamp on the bottom of the receiver frame. Can you post a picture showing the "77" "84" and "42" ?
