pawn shop score
I got up early, for me on a saturday, this morning and went down to the church to help install our new mixing board. Pertty much all I did was play my guitar and sing into the microphone so they could figure out what was where and how much to turn me down. Anyway, I was gonna go get my beard trimmed, waited too long they close at noon, so I went to eat lunch and then headed home. Thought about going to 1st monday trades day in canton texas but talked myself out of it. I had some money in my pocket and was looking to make a deal. So I stop my local pawn shop and they are having a big radio to do and giving away $100 gift certificates for in store purchases only. Didn't win anything but did see a hawkin style black powder rifle in the rack. Finally got someone to show it to me and to my surprise it was a Thompson Center .36 caliber muzzle loader. I looked it over and fairly expected the bore to be rusted and pitted beyond repair as are most muzzle loaders i find in a pawn shop. But to my surprise the bore was clean, no visible rust and the rest of the gun looked good with just a little rust around the nipple area. They were having a big promotion and had the prices "marked down" for the occasion. This little jewel was marked down to $145.00. Wow, I couldn't believe it. I like the Thompson Center black powder rifles and sold my .50 about a year ago. I've been looking for a deal on one ever since. I made like I was interested and even tried to get em to come down on the price. I tried $145 out the door and the lady showing me the rifle acted like it made her mad so I quit playing and bought it. I think this is gonna be one fun little rifle to shoot. Of course I gotta get all geared up to shoot black powder again. About the only thing I have is quite a bit of Pyrodex R/S and some triple seven. I've shot .36 caliber revolvers before but never a .36 caliber rifle. Like I said, this ought to be fun.

looks like you bought one of the small caplock rifles that came in .32-.36 and .45, i have two,a .32 and a .36 and the are light,easy on powder and lead along with being accurett and i see then going for 350-400 and more in ex condition. you lucked out. mr myopic. 0 -
on sat at a small local gun show i bought a .45 senaca for a very good price, the dealer didn,t know what it was realy worth. i now have all three calibers, .32-.36-.45. i wish they had made them in flint lock. my rifles like black powder. mr myopic. 0 -
I picked up a Seneca in 45 at the last Tyler gunshow when I was set up there. Had several people trying to buy it before the show was over. Need to get it to the range and shoot it come to think of it. It is about two pounds lighter than my Hawken 50 caliber, much handier. A 36 would be fun to shoot!
What church to you do the sound at? I used to work at FBC Tyler doing the sound, lighting, and television for many years.0 -

Dangit....made me want a 36.....found one for sale locally, picked it up for 225.....but it needs a ramrod since it just has a dowel right now. oh well. Now to find some 35 caliber or so balls.... 0 -

I was able to get patches, .350 diameter lead balls and a short starter
I also picked up some .44 caliber lead balls for my Italian 1860 Army
I haven't shot em yet but I see some 4 day work weeks in my future so maybe I'll get out to the woods or creek banks to do some shooting0 -
I love the Thompson Center Hawkens. I have one in .50, have killed 3 deer with it.
The patched round ball is quite lethal on deer and wild hogs.0 -

Sad thing is, I still haven?t gotten it out to shoot it. I got round balls and patches from track of the Wolfe but no time to go shoot. 0 -
