cross bow question

My current cross bow uses 22" bolts. I put in a bid on a new one but didn't notice it uses 20" bolts. What are the chances I can still use 22" bolts? I don't see why it matters as long as the broad head doesn't extend past the stirrup.

  Could you cut your old bolts down?

  That would be far cheaper than buying new.
