Pickup truck tool box questions!!
I have been looking at tool boxes for my sons pickup as a possible Christmas present. I am amazed at the difference in the prices between the high end and the el-cheapo special. I have checked out Lowes, Auto Zone among several others and all I have gotten is confused.
Can some of you point me in the right direction concerning good brands or good web sites to shop on?? Thanks!!

I have a tool box from Tractor Supply..at the bottom of the price bracket...My guess is like AR lowers, most of the tool boxes on the market are probably made by a few companies and multiple sellers put their names on the same boxes. I've had it on multiple trucks since 2000. It has been a great box. I use J hooks from hardware store to secure it to the bed rail. These days they have sleeker more low profile tool boxes.

Make sure you measure carefully so the box actually fits.
TSC has a good "on the shelf" selection here but only ones fitting the most popular vehicles.0 -
MY TSC side box has leaked since day one. The leaking has ruined everything in the box made of steel due to rust.
TSC's attitude? "Oh well, sometimes they leak."0 -

No doubt. I own one, bought it four years ago...looks brand new. Has two locks and brackets which don't bend your truck bed when you install it. Tough enough to jump on without bending. And it's been through Nebraska hail storms without a dent.0 -

Yup.
By Knaack Manufacturing Co. Made just across town from me. I went to high school with the founders daughters and am very good friends with her and her husband. We hunt and and have hunted quite a bit together.
They sold out years ago, but still make a high quality product.
Someone should really write a book about Howard Knaack, the founder. Quite a man to say the least.

i have one i bought from Sears about 15 years ago. it has dual latches but you can open it with one hand from either side. been on three trucks so far. being from the deep damp south i dont think of anything as being "water proof". if i dont want something getting too wet i put it in a plastic bag. 0 -
Those tool boxes from Lowes will last about 4 or 5 years if used daily. 0 -
What kind of tool box do you want, cross body, side mount or chest style? I've always had protec, like what Steve posted. They have always lasted the life of the truck, and sometimes two or more trucks, and are always worth good money when they are used. 0
