turning in to my parents...........
just like the commercial says, our buck gun season starts monday, not sure if I will go to the cabin tommorrow or sunday morning, waiting on my son to see when he wants to go. sitting here making a list of things needed for the week. got over half a page. I remember when I was in my 20's and 30's I would just take off with the clothes on my back and rifle and pocket full ammo.
sitting here looking at the list, I'm not sure it will all fit in the truck in one load,,, I used to laugh to myself at my folks for packing so much junk everytime we left the house....[;)]

I think as we age we have a tendency to over think things! Used to be I just did it and everything worked out fine. Now it seems I get too involved with the unnecessary details[:(!] 0 -
realising the old people weren't so stupid after all huh? congratulations hillbillie you are now an adult 0 -
" turning into my parents"
I do believe my wife would kill or divorce me.
Or I might just go play in traffic.0 -
I go on a ten day duck hunt every year and I have tried to thin it down some. Hard to do, I now take every tool that would be needed to repair anything, on boat/motor/trailer/truck etc. Too much stuff really.
Nothing pisses me off more than to be in the middle of nowhere, and only needing a simple tool, that you left at the house.
I now carry more safety equipment than I ever imagined. Multiple compasses, two GPS, two life jackets, fire starter crap, three boat paddles, dry bag of extra clothes, etc. etc. AND a large ammo can of just survival stuff.
I'd rather have it and never need it,............than being in a bad spot, forked up.
Also, I don't know about you, but when I was younger I was too broke to afford much more than a Mag-lite and ammo. [8]
I ain't rich but I got some stuff now.[:o)]0 -
Don't forget the toilet paper. 0 -
This habit was learned from several instances of "DAMN! I can't believe I forgot to bring (fill in the blank)." 0 -
As I/we get older, we seem to have more time to think about all the variables(probably because we spend much less time thinking about SEX) but unfortunately can't remember most of the things we thought about so we make lists. Unfortunately, I often lose the list and have to start over, if I can find the notepad.
I'm leaving for an elk hunt in New Mexico a week from today. I ahve all my clothes in a bag, my paperwork is in a folder, my rifles are cased and ammo in the backpack, my driving route is laid out and the turns highlighted, and all that sort of stuff. No doubt I'll forget something but it won't be my fault, right?0 -
I'm just the opposite, after the 3rd or 4th trek into the woods as a youngster, I learned the old mountain climbers adage the hard way "ounces equals pounds, pounds equals pain"
Now I only take what's necessary.
As the old saying goes, as we get older we get smarter. But there are always exceptions to the rule, and it's made very apparent in this thread[;)]0
