This Is My Surgery I Had

Except they removed more of my tongue. About 90% of it. I can not move my tongue at all because its tied down.

I also had cancer in my lymph nodes in my neck and they operated on that at the same time.

They also had to replace the vein in my tongue because that had cancer also. They cut me from my hip to my knee to remove the extra vein in my right leg.

Its amazing what they can do now.

Im calling my cancer doctor Monday to see if i can get a biopsy done before Christmas. The other doctor has not called me back yet.[:(]

    I hit the trifecta last week - had a head PET scan and a head CT scan and a head MRI

    being in restraints - and having your head and neck locked in place while they do the scans is unfun...

    I don't let anything bother me anymore - but having your head strapped down and immobilized with restraint cushions (while your head goes into the scanning device tunnel is somewhat terrifying and panic inducing - and the scans take awhile

    They would love to biopsy the aberrant growth in my head - but it's location in the sub arachnid region above the brain stem makes taking a sample rather difficult - as the procedure would likely kill you or turn you into a vegetable

    The scans indicate that the tumor is no longer active - that it looks like a calcified mass that has shrunk somewhat

    But many brain scans can be inconclusive apparently

    So they are going to keep it under observation and run more scans - do more frequent blood work

    I don't know if I can handle getting radiation treatments fired through my brain or going back on heavy-duty platinum based chemotherapy

    I am developing a strong dislike of cancer

    The surgery was 15 to 18 hours and used 4 surgeons at the same time. It was supposed to be a 6 hour surgery but they had problems and scared my wife to death.

    Mike when i had radiation they bolted my head down by a mask they molded to my face. Then they tied my hands and legs down so i could not move a muscle.

    Being tied down does not bother me at all. I was scared of throwing up and drowning before they could get the mask off.[:(]

    Cancer is no fun I've had it three times. All three times I went to Switzerland for 6 months where they know how to cure it.

    My last time there, my doctor told me if I don't change my ways he won't see me anymore.

    Well I still haven't changed my ways, I still smoke. So I guess next time I get cancer I'll just fly to Australia and go swim with the crocodiles. I just won't let them cut me up like that. I guess I'm just too much of a wimp.

    My hat's off to you though, you two are a better man than me
