NJ Firearms Purchaser Ident Card for pellet gun?!?
News to me! NJ requires a Firearms Purchaser Identification Card to purchase a BB gun or pellet gun. Even a lowly 400 FPS pellet gun which does not make the mandated 600 FPS minimum for hunting.
Your Honor, where is the "fire" in this supposed "firearm"?

In New Joisy, if it looks even remotely like a gun, it's essentially banned. Because the hood rats will hold up liquor stores with one. Unless they're strictly "controlled" of course. That fixes everything. 0 -

I believe that ridiculous law has been in place for about 45 years that I know of. A F.P.I.D. card is required for the purchase of any BB/pellet handgun/rifle in the state. IIRC each handgun purchase also requires a $45.00 permit and it might even be more now as I left that state 23 years ago. On a side note, you might have a problem shooting jays as I believe they are considered song birds and it is illegal to shoot them but don't hold me to that.0 -

A New Jersey man has spoken out about a traffic stop which led to his arrest the next day, because deputies discovered his car contained an unloaded antique gun.
Gordon Van Gilder told NRA News in an interview of a November 2014 incident when he was stopped for what the news outlet called a 'minor traffic violation' and a sheriff's deputy asked to do a search.
Van Gilder, 72, was reportedly sitting in the passenger seat and said in the interview that he agreed to have the car searched. Van Gilder said that when asked by a deputy if there was anything dangerous in the car, he answered that the glove compartment contained a flintlock pistol.

'The reason I got the firearm was it goes with my collection of 18th-century objects,' he explained to NRA News.
He said in the interview 'One of the undersheriffs said, 'Well, let him go, it's 250 years old.' But his boss, who is the sheriff, said, 'No, we have to arrest him.'
'Next morning, I am sleeping and I hear big pounding on the door, and four of them came and took me away with three or four sheriff's cars - I guess they didn't have anything better to do with taxpayers' money, by the way.'
Evan Nappen, who is representing van Gilder, told NRA News 'It's a mid-1700s flintlock, bona fide antique pistol, unloaded, and yet he's facing the same draconian penalty as if he had a .44 Magnum loaded on his person. It doesn't matter. There's no distinction.'
Nappen said of his client 'he's facing up to ten years in state's prison with a minimum mandatory three-and-a-half to five years, no chance of parole, because New Jersey's modern handgun law includes antique handguns.'0 -
I think it's been that way since 1968. An ID card is needed to purchase any long gun including BB & black powder. A separate pistol permit is needed for each pistol purchased, including BB & black powder. Most people just purchased them while they were out of state or ordered them via the mail from companies that would ship any where. Another quirk is that if you send a gun to a manufacturer for repair & they decide to send you back a new one instead; it has to be shipped to an FFL and treated as a new purchase. 0 -
If American citizens need to pay permit fees to use a Second Amendment freedom why can't states require fees to vote, join a church, join a forum such as this one to use our First Amendment right? Why is this any different than the pole taxes states used to require citizens pay to vote? Has anyone ever challenged in court the charging of fees to get a permit to buy a gun? Are there any states that make citizens pay a fee to register to vote, or pay for a permit to not have our homes searched without a search warrant? 0 -
