Huge difference between good and great Bourbon
Just did a little taste test between:
8 year old Jim Beam
18 year old Elijah Craig
Nothing wrong with the Beam but it just can't hold a candle to the great taste of another 10 years of aging

There is indeed a huge difference in bourbons. Sometimes more than a hundred bucks a bottle difference.
Wife says Jim Beam Black is one of the best she's tasted. I don't drink bourbon, preferring more traditional whiskies.0 -

Age is not the be-all and the end-all. I have had 30 year old scotch that I wouldn't use to clean my toilet.
That said, however and generally speaking, the mellowing brought about by proper aging is for the most part something that can be expected and appreciated.0 -

But I don't know what got in to my relatives over there to smoke good liquor with peat. Damn, that stuff tastes like ****.0 -

I no longer drink, but always found a real economic advantage in not having sophisticated taste. Beam was always very smooth, which is how I like it. The Scots whiskey tastes like old gym socks. Bushmills is not bad though for Irish. 0 -
Just finished a bottle of Woodford Reserve that I was given for rescuing some critical data off someone's laptop.
Excellent, well worth the $30 (plus 10c/gal off on gas!) my local Winn Dixie sells it for.
Holding off another week to buy another bottle... just so I know I can make it last through the holidays.0 -

This is by far my favorite. Not nearly as sweet as normal rye whiskey, with such great flavor of the charred barrels, and the other added ingredients...[:p]
