I viewed the pics on the auction. At first I feared that if I owned that pistol and fired it, the value would diminish. I don't believe that to be the case upon review. This pistol is anything but 'mint'. It even comes with finger/hand prints on the front strap that discolored the bluing. There's even a hint of an 'idiot scratch' behind the slide stop. There's also a neat chewed up 'slot' on the slide for removing the slide stop.
It appears to be a miracle the pistol is in the shape it's in, after all these years.
I hope the new owner cranks off a few mags - what would be the harm?0 -
There is a YouTube video from an auction house where a guy was handling a Singer, with gloves of course. He would not:
dry fire- of course.
rack the slide.
cock the hammer.

If it hadn't been fired, no I wouldn't fire
If it had been, I would make sure that it's safe to shoot and then go out and shoot it a couple of times.
In either case I would decide whether I should keep it and pass it on to my kids, or sell it and invest the money I get from it to pass on to my kids...0 -

It is.
I now have :
1. Remington Arms, Springfield Armory, and Colt from WW1.
2. Colt, Ithaca, Remington Rand, Union Switch and Signal, and Singer from WW2.
Also a Colt still in 455 Webley and a Norwegian from 1925. From here I guess I could go into the weeds with specific builds, (US Navy, etc.) but this was a big bite to take and it would have to be pretty special.0 -
