How Bad Did I Mess Up
I picked Cameron 14 years old up from wrestling practice. After wrestling practice the coach and another kid approched us and the coach started fussing at Cam because he did not stop wrestling fast enough and the other kid got mad and went to the coach.
After about 3 minuets of the team and the ladies basketball team watching the coach fuss at Cam i spoke to the coach and told him thats enough. He told me Cam was about 2 or 3 seconds late in stopping. He had the guy up and was getting ready to slam him and the coach blew the whistle and Cam finished the move.
Ive kicked boxed in fights and if i knew how someone fought i would have the first 30 seconds of the fight in my mind and thats what i did unless i had to adapt so i would not be thinking of a whistle.
I told him we can go in private and discuss this. He declined. So i told him that he better not fuss at or talk down to him in front of anyone again. I told him if he has a problem and needs to discipline him thats fine. I believe in discipline but do it respectfully.
If he would have just said what he had to say 1 time that would have been fine but he talked so long and loud everyone stopped and was watching. Cam looked like he was going to get in a locker to hide.
Im sorry you do not do that to a kid. Any kid. At 14 it does not take much to confuse a kid. I told him if he has another problem with Cam call me and we will work it out. I told him Cam has my number and we can meet anytime. I did not say that in a mean tone but more like if theres a problem we will work it out nicely.

You seem to have a great relationship with Cam. Did you ask him if he knowingly slammed the kid after the whistle blew?
If he did, he should be called on it, and the remainder of the team should be aware that it is wrong. You mentioned earlier that you had to reprimand him for his reaction after knocking an opposing player out on the football field. Worth a deep discussion with him in addition to one with the coach.0 -
I fail to see how you could view that as messing up.
The coach exhibited a sad lack of a very important leadership trait.0 -

+1... The coach is there to teach the kids ( all the kids) how to wrestle and follow the rules.
Could you imagine how long a kids sporting event would be if the coach had to privately tell each participant something?...
I guess if you don't want him to play on a team and be taught as a team is taught, maybe you ought to sign him up for private classes. Otherwise let the coach coach his own team. He doesn't need to be told how to coach it by every parent or grandparent.
Your teaching the kid not to respect authority by what you did... He's going to grow up and not be able to hold down a job because the boss isn't doing things the way your kid thinks they should be done, and will argue with his boss, just like you demonstrated that it's okay to do for him.[V]0 -
Athletes are taught to stop on the whistle, not continue ---" 2 or 3 seconds". thats flagrant behavior and will get you ejected from any contest participated in, besides POOR SPORTSMANSHIPSHIP. the kid was TOTALLY in the wrong and deserved discipline from the athletic coach/school for the dangerous behavior. 0 -
