Battery Tenders
The recent thread on battery tenders got me to thinking I should have a few of these in winter for ATV, seldom used pickup, garden tractor etc.
With prices ranging from $25 up to more than $200 all with different features I am unsure as to what to buy.
Any suggestions...

Avoid the Harbor Freight version. Tried a couple of them on my deep cycle trolling motor batteries. 0 -
I have had good luck with these. 
I have them on my Whole house generator, Tractor, 2 boat batteries.
You cannot put them on an extension cord so that may be a factor to you.0 -

I have several battery tender rand name two 12 volt keep my 69 camaro and one of seldom used pickups on them just the basic models and two 6 volt that ( one for a back up) for my old 8n ford tractor for many years now been happy always done what there suppose to do nothing bad to say
I have a other's also two schumacher versions of the battery tender work ok one cheap like harbor freight
I also have several larger chargers a couple with the jump mode that are nice to have around0 -
only get one that is >>>>self regulating<<<<....down the road at our lake place a dumbo had an old JD riding lawn mower and kept a battery charger of some kind on it so it would be ready to start on his few visits... burned up his house & garage totaly and his neighbors(my relatives) lean to, 2 car garage, pergola, and damaged the screen porch, burnt up his state pickup, their Malibu, and my suv parked there...and they had to have the house completely cleaned from the smoke......if the kids had not been up at 1am playing video games and seen the fire coming they may not have got out...never said sorry to them or me...azzhole...NAPA has a neat model with a scrolling readout on battery condition for around $40..i use 3 of em at home 0 -

I have several "Battery Minder" float chargers and they all work really well. They have overcharge protection and can charge up to 4 batteries in series. $19.99 on sale at Northern Tool.
I also recently bought a Schumacher float charger at WalMart for $10 in their battery section. So far it works perfectly and is very compact. For $10 it is an outstanding deal.
I have a lawnmower battery that is 10 years old and still works fine. I attribute this longevity to using the float charger year round. It prevents sulfates from building up on the lead plates in the battery which is the number 1 reason for premature battery failure.0 -
I've got a Deltran Battery Tender that I bought in Nov. of '03. Still running strong. Also have a couple of the Schumacher that are eight or ten years old. Both of them still function fine. 0 -

I use Deltran battery tenders on all my 12 items. I'd suggest that if they're all in the same area (garage?) that you buy the multi tenders - 1tender that has multiple battery leads...
They're great and keep my tractor, 4 wheeler, generated etc... at peak power.0 -

I have had a couple battery tender Plus in the past, buy have only last about 5 years. But I have now several batteryMINDers model 12117 that has out lasted the couple battery tender Plus that I had three times fold... Plus they seem to do a lot better job desulfating (rejuvenating) batteries than the battery tender Plus.
Although if you're looking for just a maintainer, cTek is the maintainer that you want. It is bar none the best battery maintainer on the market. But maintains batteries better than any other maintainer. Buy there pricey... But they are computerized, so that you can NOT over charge your battery and ruin it like the cheaper ones such as battery tender Plus and batteryMINDer...
but if you buy the cheaper type like a battery monitor or a battery tender Plus make sure you put them up on a timer so you don't over charge your battery. Run it 12 hours on 12 hours off. If you don't run a timer on it, you may not overcharge it, but there is a possibility that you will with the cheaper ones0 -

Those will cook out a battery in no time.
My Best I've found is Battery tender.0 -
I just remove all of my utility batteries when not in use for long periods of time and store them in my warm basement.
All have worked for many years with no worries of a plugged in appliance going bad. My motor home has a solar charging unit that was on it when I bought it and seems to do a good job.0 -

I have a Harbor Freight one on a mower battery for a few months.I never heard anything bad about them,but I guess I need to check that battery. 0 -
