If a person wanted a .338 Lapua

But did not want a lightweight sporter barreled rifle or one of those huge tactical rifles what would you get? Looking for the perfect combination of heavy barrel with a break but also managable as a carry rifle. Is there such a critter being made or am I going to be stuck having one built? Looking for maximum effective range that can be carried.

    I think a Savage 110 is as close as you will get to what you are looking for.

    Since I do most of my shopping on GunBroker that's where I looked. Several 110's there and then there is this one. Helps that it is in MT.

    How about the Encore? MGM should be able to manufacture a nice long barrel with a muzzle break. They are light and even with extra long barrels are shorter than bolt guns.

    Remington MSR... It is the gold standard of sniper rifles, and the nice part is that it's modular so you can shoot the .338 Lapua mag, the .338 Norma mag, the .300 win Mag and the 762X51 (.308 with just a quick change of the barrels...

    They are spendy though.

    I have an Accuracy International AW that is a hell of a rifle.

    For the money I might look at the Ruger. I have seen then shoot some very good groups;

    The Savage is a steal for what they are asking and they are more accurate than most everything else if you want 338 Lapua.

    Having said that, if you want the ultimate, go with a 50 BMG. The 50 has proven itself in Afghanistan.
