Gonna try it again...

After the debacle of the trailer I assembled for my motorcycle last year I stepped back and thought the situation before jumping back in. But I really want to have a way to transport the thing.

I decided no more trailers that I must assemble (apparently unassembled isn't a word). Buying that kit was a huge mistake.

So I shopped around and bought a 5x8 utility trailer from Tractor Supply. Wanted a 4x8 as perfectly sized but this one was on sale at the same price as the smaller one and seemed much sturdier, with bigger tires and 60% more payload capacity. Has the folding tailgate that is also a ramp. Still have the heavy duty ramp I purchased to use with the other trailer if this ramp proves unworkable for some reason.

Mounted the front tire rack and I think I'm ready to try loading the bike. Even though this one has taller tires the deck height is a little lower. I think I can push the bike up the ramp by myself.

Sometime today or tomorrow I will trying loading it up. Will post a photo...if nothing goes wrong.

    Trust me on this you will like the 5X8. Its much easier to see when Backing and while going down the road.

    Find something like this and mount on the Back outside of the trailer again to help in backing.

    Doc: Forget pushing, just ride it up on there. Have whatever your tiedown system is ready beforehand. Saves lots of swearing/sweating.

    GG: Look for those red indicators under ?snowplow supplies?. They?re cheap and easy to install. I?d give you the name of a great supply house but I?m not sure if that?d violate GB policy.

    buy the harbor freight motorcycle chock a well made product. ride the back into the trailer and the chock, it will automatically lock the front wheel and hold the bike upright. im seventy and io can do it with a triumph speedmaster. this chock is easy to install and you can make it easy to remove and use the trailer for other purposes.

    Got the chock already.

    That big ol' tailgate sticking up is plenty to aid backing.

    Tried once to push it and couldn't. Would be nice to be able to do this if engine not running is reason for transport.

    Backing it down the ramp was a little scary but made it fine.

    I agree the 5x8 seems like a good size. Easy to tow.

    For loading without power, look at the Harbor Freight winch with wireless remote for about $50.

    Pretty nice trailer. The 60" is wide enough for riding mowers, 4-wheelers etc.

    I had a bad experience attempting to trailer a bike on one of those fold up trailers. Borrowed the trailer from a friend, and towed it 3 hours to picked up a pristine Honda VFR. Loaded the bike on the trailer, and made it about 2 miles and while turning into a parking lot the entire trailer buckled diagonally dropping the bike on it's side. Scratched the fairing on the edge and side...sigh I was disheartened. Fortunately I brought my helmet and had a friend with me. Ended up riding the bike all the way home, in 48 degrees and pouring rain at night. That ride sucked....and I should have used a much better trailer. [V]
