Florence up to 90 MPH

Pressure at 974 and dropping.

Headed straight for Wilmington. This is going to be a real bad ass.

I grew up in Atlanta. I didn't like it, couldn't go hunting, couldn't even shoot a gun.
In 1960 my family made our first vacation to the coast at St. Simons Island. I loved it there, beautiful old 1910 houses, the old wooden pier where guys caught sharks! We went crabbing and caught 50 crabs, my brothers and me. Boiled 'em up and they were good.

Went to the pier and my Mom bought 15 pounds of fresh shrimp right off the boat and we boiled 'em up, man, they were good!

I was always drawn to the coast. When it was time to move, years ago, I could not go towards the coast because of storms like this one. So I moved up to the mountains of North Carolina.

Damn, if I lived on the NC coast I couldn't sleep for the next five days because of this storm, this badass storm is going to be a real disaster.

    If anybody is in the storms path and wants a free Florida vacation, we have a few spare bedrooms for ya. Come on down.

    I went to make some Hamburger Helper and when I read the package it said I needed milk. I didn't want to break into the powdered stuff so I ran up to the Pig half expecting to find nothing. No problem fully stocked with milk, bread and water. No problem.

    Thank goodness didn't want to eat my Hamburger Helper Stroganoff without the sauce :)


    I wish these damn storms on no one but pray it leaves Charleston alone we have had several years of October Rain and storms and I could use a break.

    I truly believe this storm will pull the heat of the Atlantic and be the last major storm of the season for the east coast though.

    Thanks for the offer Gary, guess we will just have to batten down the hatches and pray for the best . Too much at stake to pack up and run . Old folks always talk d about Hazel in 1954 . Right now this looks to be worse , so say the weathers weenies. We are higher enough not to worry overmuch about prolonged flooding but many of my friends and neighbors are in low lying areas close to the river. They have flooded multiple times in past hurricanes.

    My co-worker was forced to evacuate from Ocracoke this morning. We had a VDEM meeting and they said this is anticipated to be the worst hurricane to his this area of the US in several decades. By this time tomorrow they predict it will be a high Cat 4, possible Cat 5 with sustained winds above 170 mph. It is predicted to stall over Greenesboro and bring 8-20" of rain to our area. There is going to be massive flooding if this occurs.

    Thank God I live in the PNW where the wind doesn't blow a thousand miles an hour. The occasional fire, volcano, or earthquake I can deal with but I don't like to see flying mobile homes.

    Yep they are doing a mandatory evac of the OBX. I have a buddy who lives out ther.

    My Nephew had to evac from UNC Wilimington so He and a buddy are up here in Raliegh.

    Wife said there is no more bottles of water anywhere, no biggie for me we have plenty and a well with a generator.

    I am gassing all the vehicles up and putting 3 in the barn.

    I have plenty of gas cans with good gas and I will make sure the chainsaws are ready tomorrow.



    Everyone is afraid this will be like Fran in 1996. I am set just need to do a few things to make sure.

    We have a place on the Isle of Palms! The condo survived "Hugo" back in 1987. Evacuated the island today and my daughter and some of her friends are scheduled to go there this Thursday!

    As of the 5PM NOAA update, winds are up to 140mph and still rising. She is starting the slight turn northward as well.

    This is some nasty stuff coming right here.[V]

    They are calling for 18"-24" of rain in our area....if that happens we will have massive flooding in VA/NC. Not a damn thing we can do other than sit here and wait for it to hit.
