Trump plans EMERGENCY AID to Farmers !!!
The Trump administration announced on Tuesday that a $12 billion farmer emergency aid plan is in the works on Tuesday to temporarily mitigate the effects of U.S. tariffs and ongoing trade negotiations.
The U.S. Agriculture Department, headed by Secretary Sonny Perdue, released the plan on Tuesday. Perdue was instructed this year to investigate potential remedy to farmers? concerns about tariffs and trade disputes between the U.S. and its trading partners.
The Washington Post reported details of the $12 billion plan, according to two sources who had been briefed on it:

In my neck of the woods, the term "Rich Farmer" is quite the oxymoron!
I have seen many very hard working folks always on the brink of losing everything that their families have strived to keep for generations.
I honestly have no qualms seeing the gov't aiding our own here on the farm way over all of the loot it sends overseas as foreign aid!!!0 -

Less of an issue when you're the major player and producer on the PLANET.
South America rode the big wave of soybean production for a while before getting dunked by fertility issues. Australia rode the meat wave for a while until consumers got tired of "aged" meat(not aged in the cooler but from elderly animals that were 1/2 starved). Russia/Ukraine is supposedly getting into grain production but AFAIK, anything "Eastern European" is destined for failure.
America is the primary producer of grain, that's an undeniable fact.0 -

As far as I can tell there's a difference between "worrying about something" and actually being affected by that something. My comment specifically noted that the concern had not affected the sale of a current crop since that crop has not been harvested. At this point, nothing is trading hands except futures and stored previous production(most of which is already priced BTW)0 -

My take on the tariffs and trade: So far, so good, but what the future holds is another story. On farm subsidies: Were all small farmers back in the 40s, 50s, and 60s subsidized? I can remember those years when Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas, for example, was full of small farms and beautiful crops - they disappeared long ago. What happened to the small farmers? Who helped them? 0 -

I have read all I can get on the idea and policy of tariffs. What it boils down to in this case with the USA and China is pretty simple. There will be damage, real damage done to both sides unless an agreement can be reached. With that said the damage comparison can be measured like this. The USA will get hit in the economic thumb with a hammer, we will lose the nail but it will regrow.
The Chinese on the other hand will have both arms chopped of near the elbow. Those appendages do not grow back; the damage is permanent and hard to adjust to.
Previous administrations both (D) scumbags and (R) slimeballs have allowed the US economy to be used as a diaper. There is no real balance of trade, the trade favors the crap out of China and US business by and large is locked out of the potential market of over 1.3 billion people for our goods. We can not play in China unless we give away our trade secrets our methods and our know how. Our products have ridiculous hurdles placed in front of them to slow the exchange by design unless China scores big on every transaction.
That is what is unfair, Trump and China know it and the Chinese are not willing to get both arms chopped off.
They will come to the table with a reluctant but willing attitude soon enough, they have to there is no other choice for China. It is also a gamble; Americans will get hurt I am one of them. The proposed tariffs on Chinese made tires is onerous it will hurt us bad but it is a game plan with sound foundations to reverse or at least slow the inequities our businesses face in the far east.
Hell we gave them everything (China) free technology,free trade and the biggest one that Communism works just as well as Democracy Capitalism.
Because we are joined at the hips and all that ideology of our government being s free democracy is not much different then theirs when it comes to greed and wealth that is all powerful.
For The Oligarchy who runs the international corporations it (forms of government) makes no difference. They just switch hats and become what the little middle class people think they are. The same as it ever was.

I don't know about that. The vast majority of the farmers I see (unless have livestock) are wintertime snowbirds in their motor homes/campers or just fly to their condo in AZ, FL, etc. The others spend a month or so in Europe or where ever.
Nearly all rent their equipment anymore, have nice new homes, new shops w/man caves included, new vehicles, ATV's, boats, etc.
Maybe they are up to their eyeballs in debt or not, no idea but they seem to be living the good life.
As one said, "we don't farm the land anymore, we farm the government"
And then there is the 4, 4, 44 program. That is work 4 weeks in the spring, 4 weeks in the fall, and 44 weeks of vacation.

My hay supplier has nice new equipment, a decent chunk of land and about a million in debt.[:0] I asked him how he makes any money and just shrugged and didn't answer. Meanwhile all of my land and equipment is paid for and I still don't make enough to justify all the time I invest in my farm. I literally would make more working a fast food job. This year with the extreme drought it is costing me just to keep my cows.[xx(]0
