    OK so I only made it to the 1st state and I did not know you had to register guns in that state. So this is telling me they are only tracking gun like Machine Guns that do have to be registered so this whole thing is incorrect.

    You need to click the arrows to the left to see the states in order. Oddly, when you get to the lowest, New York State, it says:

    "While this list is lengthy, it does not include categories like pistols, which make up a large percentage of the guns in the U.S. As such, the total numbers of guns in each state would actually be much higher than the figures here. This gallery is a but a snapshot of some of the broader trends."

    I guess "registered guns" simply means 4473's registered with ATF for rifles and shotguns.

    Then if you go check Missouri Department of Conservation's website you will see that in 2015 860,561 deer were harvested with resident firearms permit. that's almost 17 deer per "registered" firearm!

    Soo, either those 51,550 guns are being shared, a small group of hunters are shooting scores of deer each, or those numbers are way off.

    I have seen that article before. There ARE no registered guns in most states, with the exception of NFA arms. The BATF does NOT get a 4473- unless a dealer is going out of business.


    Taking the number from calls to the instant check system for purchases? Again false numbers- several states do not require that if you have a CC permit. Virginia has its own system run thru VCIN. 03 C&R FFL holders do not do 4473s on C&R guns- like the nice little Browning I picked up yesterday.

    The editorial staff ran across a bit of information and decided to write about it- despite not knowing JACK about their subject. If they knew the real numbers, they would likely wet their pants, and need a coloring book and a safe place.

    Texas was 18. I'd think it would be in the top 10. Texas will probably turn blue in 2024 just like California did in early 90's.

    Thought I'd never live see a Democratic Senator in Texas. Barring unforeseen bad luck, that may happen.

    Yes exactly, and those listed numbers are off by powers of tens.

    I can look around the campground I live at and see about
    6 people I know of that own guns. NOT one is registered.
    One old timer here [74 yo} brags about his collection
    of single action revolvers and 40 to 60's style hunting
    rifles. Says he NEVER filed out a 4473 in his life!!

    Cut the grass first, then count the blades AND the clippings!!

    You are right, I mistook the permits issued with the number of deer taken.

    Total deer harvested in 2015, with firearms permit was 216,610.
    Still over four deer to every "registered" firearm.
