    Hope there is some news about why he died. It isn't everyday a commander of a fleet kills himself, if that's what happened.

    Officers, especially senior officers, are very reluctant to seek any kind of psychological help, because they know it would harm their careers. It's too bad. You have to wonder what was going on in his life that made him think there was only that one way out.

    "apparent suicide" is the SOP for these announcements/notifications by the military. There are various reasons for that particular verbiage.

    It sucks. No rank or position is immune to suicide.

    My BIL is a retired JAG Officer.

    He stated that the majority of his last prosecutions was for fraternization.

    Big issue right now and career ending for an officer.

    So maybe more to then is being told.

    Sure there's more than is being told. He died by suicide. He's not around to explain or to stand trial, so we won't know everything he went through or what brought him to that point.

    What we don't need to do is suggest anything illegal, unethical, or immoral on his part. He was a vice admiral in the US Navy, and as far as any of you know, he served with honor.
