Xmas in Norway

G/F's sister sent me this, from her deck on the fjord of His, Norway at 9am Xmas morning with the moon still up.

    Europe has more varied and beautiful places than anywhere in the world not to mention 1000's of years of History.

    Fortunately the Europeans don't seem to interested in tearing down and rewriting their History.[}:)]

    If life ever stops interfering with my plans, a "summertime" visit there is on the bucket list.
    In the middle of getting a new PC up and running, so naturally I lost the pic she sent of Oslo all lit up for Xmas. It looks like something from a Disney movie.

    Had to ask the G/F about that when they were kids. She said Norwegian winters cleaned up the gene pool a long time ago, and nobody shoots their eye out either.[:D]
    There on the coast, winter temps average about 24F. Not much farther inland, and they can drop to -30F. There, snow pack can get 35-40ft deep. The spring thaw makes for some spectacular waterfalls into the fjords.

    Norway puts them on a boat, and sends them back to where ever. The ones still there are confined to their ghetto, and the Norwegians stay out of it.

    She was just telling me about the church cemeteries, and the tradition of lighted candles on all the graves Xmas eve. Said her dad would put candles on all the ones that no one had visited.

    Yeah there were some on the graves in my picture, but they seem to be hidden by the snow.

    It's really a beautiful country up here. My favorite is the view across the valley from where I'm staying. you can see some of the town, and during twilight hours (which is about 10 am to 2 pm this time of year) it's pretty beautiful, covered in snow, lights in the windows. It reminds me of model train landscapes I saw when I was a kid.
