Boy Scouts
I see where the Boy Scouts of America is considering filing bankruptcy, membership has dropped from 4+ million down to 2 million [:0]. Another case of a slow death due to liberal ideas and court rulings [:(!]

Any one out there collect boy scout stuff.I have a couple of items from my dads estate,a scarf,brass buckle and a small stainless folding knife.I would rather them go to a good home than just collect dust.

It is not all down to political changes, we are a far more intensely urban society and tech is very much a part of life now. many kids don't see anything they recognize in scouting, or anything they think they want. A shame nonetheless in my view. 0 -
Combination of kids not getting out anymore and parents not advising them to do so. PLUS, making it a politically correct organization as you said is a death sentence, slow and painful. Darn sad it is. 0 -

Being a farm raised boy along with my brothers we never joined mainly because we were outside most times anyway and camping in the woods and other door skills pretty much came naturally however later in my life I always supported the Scouts financially (which was a lot) and other ways when asked. Always liked the idea especially when one parent (Mom) homes became the norm in America.....but sadly they changed their ways. [:(] 0 -
As a former Eagle Scout and Son of a Scoutmaster I say good riddance!
They brought it on themselves and the BSA has been in the toilet since they let women become scoutmasters, let in girls and qu*rs and had "Professional Scouters" who are just a bunch of fat ass political operatives that collect money and get paid for it.
The head of the Atlanta Area BSA gets paid more than $200,000 a year!

no money and not going to haul me to the meetings .. end of story
I offed my sons the they declined one was in FFA though [:D]

I too came from a family that was into scouting. Both parents were leaders. One of the moderators of this forum was in the same scout troop as I. Was also a counselor later in life.
I still keep in touch with many scouts from the time I was a member.
All of us are saddened by the changes instituted via activist DEMOCRATs through ideological oriented lawsuits. Fighting these people have bankrupted the BSA into extinction.
With the radical changes forced upon the BSA by DEMOCRAT courts, none of us want our children involved.0 -
Another one bites the dust on the altar of the liberal leftist agenda . Sad to see it happen but as with Dicks they chose their path I was never in the scouts , being raised on a farm and it was seen as something for city kids . We were plenty busy in the outdoors without it . Dad could not have afforded It anyway trying to make a living farming in the 60?s 0 -
When I was 8 I picked a copy of the 1948 Boy Scout manual. I really wanted to be a Boy Scout. I was too young. My mother started a Cub Scout Pack. The idea was so popular in our community we ended up with 2 dens for our school district.
I eventually did get to become a Boy Scout but our troop was not especially active. We went to Camp-o-rees and summer camp but seldom any campouts on our own.0 -

The "activist" as you called them became the national BSA leadership making/suggesting/promoting many of the drastic changes such as women troop leaders, homo troop leaders, female memberships against the vast majority of the parents will so it's not all of the courts fault, sure they fought the courts a lot but not hard. The BSA is not dead yet but you can bet arrangements are being made [;)].0 -
Finished cub/boy scouts and joined Explorer post #10, hard to forget Post 10.[:p]
Learned a lot, mostly HOW TO LEARN but did gain some useful skills like tying knots, camping, outdoor cooking and snipe hunting.
Small town but many organized activities, Scouts, Band, FFA, Football, Science fairs. My Explorer scout post earned money by delivering fliers, cleaning trash, washing cars, and any job to earn money. Used the money to charter a bus from Oklahoma to Seattle Washington to see the Worlds Fair in 1962 (with two chaperons[:(]). Stopped at Yellowstone on the trip. Lots of fun. Remember going to the top of the "space needle" and still have a worlds fair one dollar "coin".

Maybe what remains in the smaller rural towns still offers something besides girl scouts.[:D]
Unorganized activities such as drinking underaged, getting ahold of gunpowder, blasting caps, dynamite used for hands on DIY demolition. Later on it was midnight "drag racing" on rural roads. One guy had a 4 speed 348 / dual carb setup with the name of FEARLESS FOSDICK painted in script on the rear side panels.

used to got to wichita a lot ..shopping, movies buy a car, etc....but anymore you stand a good chance of being killed by a car jacker, gang, or a cop from 1/2 a block away..with a rifle ...because you cannot understand what he is screaming about...screw it... 0 -
While I agree that today's liberal culture has changed scouting. Yes, women leadership, the lettered society, and girls allowed....
However, I think the biggest decline cause is technology etc... Back when I was a scout (60s) and a scoutmaster (80-90s there weren't all these distractions (the Internet, electronic games etc...) and society was much more close. There's so many more things drawing the interest of kids.
I'd also think hat today's youth has much less interest in camping and other scouting activities.0 -

I tend to agree with your assessment. My son was an Eagle scout and is now 42 years old. His son is 13 and joined the scouts but then quit. I was very involved with my sons scouting years (80's & 90's)when there were few distractions that there are now.0 -

Learned a lot in the FFA but they too are in a decline. Schools getting rid of the good programs where I learned the most and enjoyed doing so.0 -

Those of us who were in scouting or wanted to be, can be sad and nostalgic, but times change and so do organizations. Nothing lasts forever. Many things I thought in my youth were immortal proved not to be.

The scouts were attacked relentlessly during the Obama regime, many organizations would pull funding from the scouts because they would not give in to the LGBT agenda. They lost a lot of gifts because corporations were only supporting political correct groups. I know they caved in from the pressure because their donation base sank, very sad to see them this way as was once a scout too 0 -

When I was a kid I had friends in cub scouts and boy scouts. My dad said it would take away from my time to go hunting, fishing, camping with him so glad I didn't join.
Same with my boys and my nephews.0
