110 outlet over door?

Kid rented an old 1950's house over the back door there is a recessed single 110 receptacle. Anyone know what this was used for?

    inside or out? out may be an outside light so screw light in and use plug, inside either a clock like everyone said or a fan if backdoor is in kitchen....

    When I posted it I knew the answer was to plug something into, I think the Fan makes sense it is off the kitchen. LOL

    The whole house really needs to be rewired, I added a few GFCI's without
    ground connection and applied the stickers "NO EQUIPMENT GROUND" so they could at least use their three prong plugged stuff without having adapters all over.

    Back in the day, folks used to sit down to dinner at a specific time.

    Also, children needed to be waiting for the school bus. Mom needed to know how long the roast was in the oven.

    Not hard to see what it was for. Plugging in the I phone. [;)] We got an app for that.

    I was going to guess a fan. I run fans all over my house in the summer and have installed several receptacles just for fans. They really move a lot of air and the little 110 motors don't use much juice.

    You all must have grown up in different worlds than me, when I was growing up in the 50's the clock was above the door in the kitchen. It plugged into a recessed outlet. These houses were built in the 50's .
