Even with gas at $1.95 in Illinois I wouldn't take a trip to fill up. What this means is YOU GOT ONE HECK OF A DEAL,, price discrepancies can be attributed to cost of oil, cost to refine, location of refinery and oil supply, transportation and of course california requires "special" gas that costs more to refine and transport, etc. etc.
It's over $3.00 a gallon at my location and the minimum wage is $225 dollars per month and 80% of the people drive 125cc motorcycles or scooters.
Plus the country is oil producing and has their own refineries and sells the surplus oil/gas on the open market. Gas still high but not as high as California.
I'd say $1.96 a gallon is the lowest price in the U.S.

Bad news on the horizon for diesel prices. In 2020 maritime regulations will require that SHIPS use low sulfur fuel so Land Transportation will compete with shipping for the same fuel. Supply and demand will have an effect on prices. Article from 2017.

They can't make gas cheap enough in Illinois for me to buy it if I have any other alternative. I try to make sure my tank is full before I enter the state and I try to be out of the state before I need more. I despise spending any money in that state as I don't want them to collect single penny from me in tax. 0 -

I was in Northwest Missouri today doing some "presentations" to the Nodaway/Holt school system.
The elementary school is in one town and the high school is in the next town over - a distance of 1.5 miles.
We drove by the only gas station in the elementary school town on the way over to the high school town. We noticed the gas was $2.49. When we got back to the elementary school town to do another presentation there, the price had dropped to $2.39. A ten cent drop in a one station town in about 10 minutes time.0 -
Here in upstate New York on the Vermont border, I usually wait to fill up when I'm running errands in Vermont...about twenty to twenty-five cents a gallon cheaper.... 0 -
Filled up today and it was $3.31 a gallon for crappy E10 unleaded. 0 -
Gas on the board is$1.54. Add the usual 50 to 65 cents at the pump and it should be a little over 2 bucks. We are getting hosed and have been for months.
In July, 2017 gas was $1.53 on the Board and $2.09 at the pump, at least here in the Midwest.
I keep track of such things just for my own amusement. I have for 8 years.

But the people in the Demokratik People's Republik of Kalifornia like it like that. They just voted to keep the gas tax & registration increases in place. It was really on the ballot to repeal the increases & they voted to keep them. You go to the border at Needles & the price of gasoline is $2/gal cheaper on the other side of the Colorado River.
There is one station on I-40 where reg gas is $5.999/gal. The price is slowly coming down but the cheapest around here is $3.299/gal. & most stations charge extra to use a credit card.
Price still dropping. I just filled up @ $3.159/gal.0 -
