Is metal roofing(steel) heavier weight wise than shingle roofing?

Just saw a pretty cool house which is in need of some repair. Does anyone here know how much does it normally cost to re-roof a house of a decent size? I didn't bring my tape so I can't really say for sure what the footage is, I assume it's about 1200-1300 sq. feet all around or so. REA said it'd be in the range of 20-25K depending on the shingles, I guess.

MUCH heavier, even with the substructurals that may be required with the installation of a metal roof.

When we installed my metal roof, we took the layer of shingles off, down to bare decking. Applied a layer of engineered film and then the metal.
Guessing, I?d say shingles are twice as heavy.
