Thanks for the notes!!!!!!!! Much appreciated.

Should either of you folks ever get over this way, you have a place to stay!

What a trip with the Missus and Rocky Cockatiel! About five thousand miles driving a van.

Some things that I learned:

9,000 pound Vans don't drive like cars and they are no fun to drive in the high country's high winds, which were with us most of the way.

Driving in California is not fun and can be expensive, especially so, if you drop three grand on a new turbo and spend the night in a hotel on West Sunset Strip, buit it's worth it if you have cousins and friends to visit!

Interstate 8 in California is a good road for three reasons: One, it is in great condition and, two, it leads to Texas, but you have to make it through the Devil's Inferno and New Mexico and, three, gas becomes more affordable the closer you get to Texas!

Weather was great from Las Cruces, NM, on. Grand Slams in Houston dwarf those in Washington state, and staying with one of my well heeled cousins told me I was right in the middle of oil country and more cousins again!

East Texas never changes and I have more cousins than ever before, dwarfing the hundred plus that use to make reunions sixty or seventy years back when I was small. Thing is the vast majority are young and I have never met them, but it's good to know they are all over the place and a whole lot close by in most any direction.

What's a trip to Texas without going to La Porte for a visit to the Monument Inn Restaurant for some fantastic seafood dishes, and don't forget to visit the nearby San Jacinto Monument and Battlefiled where, if you really listen you can hear the sounds of battle and the war cries of "Remember the Alamo! Remember Goliad!" where Texans won their independence!

What's a trip to Texas without visiting Beaumont, where the Spindletop Oil gusher blew-in around the turn of the 20th century!

What's a trip to Texas without a drive through Nacogdoches, the oldest city in Texas!

I could go on and on about all the great places in Texas to visit...Kilgore comes to mind...and I've never seen the Rangerettes in person!!!!

What's a trip to Texas without meeting Old-Colts and his most elegant wife in person! Seeing their beautiful home, and the spot where they put up their Christmas tree and sometimes the train set, getting to know one another, talking about dillas', cougars, the gun room, trains sets, boxes, GB forum members, and listening to music while sitting in O-C's chair right smack in the middle of the floor, creating what might be once in a lifetime wonderful memories in a short period of time with two of the most wonderful and gracious people one could ever hope to meet! And a fantastic meal in a most wonderful setting! Thank you, Pam! Thank you, Bill! Bill...I don't quite know how to tell you....well...you married-up! [:D]

There's plenty of time to think about other GB folks and their family members...I did that a lot...passed a lot of Swift trucks too! Wish I could have met more of you folks, to include, making it up a little further north to see gearheaddad. Ed, it would have been great to see you again...sorry I missed you, man.

All said and done...Barb, Rocky, and I were happy to get back to the house...even though it is where it is!!!!!!!!![:D]

    James, it was mine and Pam's pleasure to have you and Barb in our home; great time, sure wish we could have visited longer!!!! You're half right, we BOTH married up!

    You and Barb always have a place to stay when you travel in this direction! Hopefully, on one of our San Diego trips we can travel up in your direction for a visit before returning home!

    And, thanks for the lunch! Sorry we drug you out to a somewhat expensive place; I know you expected us to choose a Whataburger! [:D]

    I thought of you an awful lot Mark. We really didn't have a plan on which way to go once we left Seattle. Had we gone east to New England, we were going to visit the wife's relatives in the Quincy, Mass., area. All thoughts of taking a longer trip including Alabama and Florida, and visiting more forum members pretty much went out the window with the turbo-expense. We decided that the wife would have to fly back to see her folks at a later date. Our home is open to you, Mark, should you ever make it this way!

    Well, "Hang me!" (A famous saying in reference to the psychopathic(?) murderer John Brown!) for not ordering up some lip smacking good Texas BBQ brisket as you mentioned!

    Right about now there are two things I wish I had done on our trip to Texas...eat BBQ'd brisket and stop by for a visit to see my old and dear friend, He Dog, down New Mexico way.

    Good morning to you too, James!

    Thankfully, so far this Summer, no Dillas have discovered our yard.

    No Cougar sightings recently, but our neighbor across the road told Pam a couple of days ago that he had gone out early the previous morning and was sitting on his back porch drinking coffee when an adult Bobcat and two youngun's walked across his yard! I would have enjoyed seeing that!!
