I just found an AR lower!! ?? about uppers

So I just found a PSA lower I had forgotten about. Of all the things I've lost over the years I miss my mind the most![:D] It seems to me that the prices of low end/mid range AR uppers are probably about as low as they are going to go so maybe it is time to mate an upper on this just found lower.


I am looking for a good quality, dependable mid range upper, but not a high end upper. The PSA lower I have is a perfectly good lower but it makes no sense to me to mate a high end (expensive) upper to a mid level lower. I will probably go with a PSA upper but am open to suggestions about other good quality mid range uppers.


In your experience what is the best under $500 upper out there??


I'm also thinking a 1 in 7 twist rate. I usually use bullets in the 62 to 68 grain weight range. Any thoughts on the twist rate??

    PSA has nice uppers in the 350-400 range and I have never had a problem with one

    I'm not sure I get it. The lower is the least complicated part. For the most part, get it as cheaply as you can and put whatever quality upper on it you can. The lower does very little to enable reliable functionality and next to nothing with regards to accuracy.

    PSA has some upper on clearance right now. You probably won't find a better deal on them.

    PSA uppers have proven to be accurate, reliable and well built in my experience.

    Mr. Perfect, I do not claim to be real knowledgeable about AR's but I know high end lowers can be very expensive. If there isn't any real difference in how the lower performs why would anybody pay an arm and a leg extra for very little difference in performance??

    If mil. spec. then everything else is decoration. Now those skull lowers ain't gonna make you shoot any better. It's just pretty (expensive [:D]). Also trying to slap together mil. spec and everything else now that's a crap shoot.

    Got my 11" complete upper from CBC Industries for $199.
    Only about 250rounds thru it, but no problems at all.

    MAS Defense....they build nice stuff...why I like them is you have a choice of barrel, choice of hand guard, choice of muzzle brake..they build them fast and ship fast and their price's are excellent...give then a look, they are in NC.

    I've bought a couple uppers from them as well. Properly assembled and functioning uppers.

    I received a PSA 16" mid-length upper w/BCG & CH yesterday. Ordered sometime after the 4th so shipping not too slow. Price $199 w/free shipping. Good enough for most needs--can't beat that deal.

    We seem to agree that PSA makes a better than OK, serviceable upper but an upper for $199.99 plus free shipping?? I know it is "blemished" but I bought a "blemished" lower from them a few years ago. My FFL guy and I looked for that so called "blemish" for several minutes and couldn't find it!! Even with the shipping and FFL fee on the lower I will be in a better than serviceable AR for right at $350.00. This honestly does not compute. I mean REALLY DOES NOT COMPUTE!!!! I love it!![:D][:D]

    Just completed the order. PSA upper on the way. PSA was the way I was planning on going but it never hurts to get the proverbial second opinion! Great minds think alike. Thanks all.

    Can't wait to read that answer.

    Some clarification about how "The lower is the least complicated part" (in Mr P's opinion) seems to be warranted.
