Specifically string trimmers.

I see Stihl and echo both have residential use and commercial use weed wackers. Is their enough of a difference between the two lines of products to be worth the price difference?

Thus far my only experience is with a Troy built 4 cycle I bought from Lowe's probably 12 years ago. It still runs pretty good, just started it up on the second pull. However it has a two piece shaft for different attachments. The area where they connect is all fubar. Even put a bigger bolt through it to fill the wollered out hole and the hole.just got even bigger.

This issue started within probably a year of getting it. In swinging it back and forth while using it, the pushpin that came with it wore the hole to twice as long as wide. And the head would spin around and not stay still. Making it impossible to trim anything close to straight. I fixed this by drilling it out and using a bolt to hold it. Worked good untill this year when the metal collar the hole is through is about worn through.

So are all trimmers capable of separate attachments like this probe to wear that bad at the connection point.

If so I'll just go with a one piece unit. But if the commercial units are that much more sturdy I might go with them.

    I would look at the husky line of string trimmers. They are built very well.

    i have a husqvarna from lowes that has giving me great service. around $130.00 i think. it also has the two piece shaft that i have several attachments. i use the tiller a lot during the summer in the garden and the pole saw is very useful. ive really not had any problem with the shaft. a good friend has the same setup and we share attachments.

    No experience with the Husky but do have a Stihl and a 15 year old Echo. Until recently, I used them both to trim multiple yards and fence rows regularly. Both are good (straight shaft) units. The Stihl seems to have a bit more power but the Echo remains a favorite as it just seems to "fit" better. (The engine shroud on the Stihl rubs my forearm and is less comfortable while the Echo has a better balance.) I'd handle all brands being considered before buying to see which one seems to fit you better. I'd also keep in mind ease/lack thereof of re-stringing.

    I've had my Echo with exchangeable attachments for 6 years now and I've never had an issue with it. String Trimmer, Edger, and Blower attachments.

    I bought a Husqvarna trimmer from Lowes a few years back and it never gave the service you expect from Husqvarna equipment.Found it was really a Poulan with an orange paint job and bigger price tag.Shameful that good companies will whore out their name for money.

    It seems like all of the Messican Landscapers are using the Echo brand around here.

    That's why I bought an Echo Chainsaw and I have not had any problems with it for about 3 years.

    One thing I've been leaning twords more and more is not buying any outdoor power equipment from big box stores. Any Future purchases will be from a small town retailer.

    I'd Rather give them a few extra bucks and have a place that services
    What they sell. Last year bought a new simplicity mower and echo backpack leaf blower. Next on the list will be a new trimmer.

    Echo makes one of the best trimmers for the $$$. I have sold and serviced Husq, Stihl and Echo for a lot of years and when it come to trimmers I would go Echo. Go professional great products
