Idiots in Trussville Al watched dog die in hot car
Everyone is going bonkers over this mess. There is a live Facebook video of the ordeal going around too. Someone left their dog in a car at the Walmart parking lot. It was a large boxer or pit bull type dog in a Mercedes.
The HORRIBLE thing is that the police got there and didn't break the glass and get into the car until it was too late.
SEVEN HOURS!!! They show that the car was parked at 4am.
Someone noticed the dog and they tried paging the owner in Walmart....called the police...a crowd formed.....all of them doing nothing. FINALLY, someone broke the glass (which proved to be very difficult to do) and they go the dog out.
I've read that it was still alive when they got it out of the car, but also that it was already dead. I just can't believe how inept the whole gaggle of morons where. How does a crowd sit there and let a dog die in a hot car???
I felt bad for having to work today, but now I'm glad I didn't expose myself to the public because it looks like stupid is pretty prevalent today.

Virginia's cruelty laws include a provision that exempts a LEO, firefighter, EMS or Animal Control from liability for damages associated with forcing entry into a vehicle to rescue an animal in distress. We still do vehicle unlocks (the only cops around this area that do) so we have unlock tools that should avoid breaking glass, but I have a window punch too if necessary. 0 -

If you don't have the correct tools, it's extremely difficult to break a car window. I carry a spring loaded punch for that purpose. If your punch is an escape tool because you live near water, don't store it in the trunk.
A friend who is a police officer found a dog locked in a hot car in the courthouse parking lot; he hesitated for, maybe, 5 seconds, then broke out the window, saving the dogs life. When the owner returned to the car, he was arrested. Any police officer who failed to take action needs retraining....or another job.

As the laws/statutes are written in Kansas even common Joe Citizen is protected from criminal/civil actions be it a child, or an animal.0 -
