Got my last new set on Ebay, with free shipping. 235/75/15 Cooper Discoverer AT3s. Ended up around $325 total, counting mounting and balancing at a local shop. 0 -
Tire Rack. Have had good luck with them for over 30 years.
Watch for specials and be mindful of shipping costs.
Sometimes it is better all around to buy local if possible, shop around and inquire as to mounting and balancing costs.0 -

handy ..i have had a rim clamp tire machine for years..seemed we always had flats on weekends and holidays...put a new rim clamp and spin balancer in relations shop next to our lake place because it was a 35 mile round trip to get a tire fixed...used em a little then they up and decided to move out of state so i brought them home...need to advertise them someday and free up some space 0 -
I have bought from both Discount Tire Direct and TireRack. I took them to the local tire shop and had them installed. I saved some money and still gave some business locally.

Sams Club is cheaper than Tire Rack. Even if you include the membership fee Sams was cheaper than Tire Rack for tires I just put on the wife's Subaru a couple weeks ago. Now that may be brand specific, but the different ones I priced were cheaper every time at Sam's, plus no shipping to have them delivered there and Sam's is $60 for install for a set of four, life rotation and balance if you make use of it. 0 -
We have a dodge d100 regular cab short bed step side 4x4 pick up with the Mitsubishi turbo six cylinder engine stored in a detached garage that is heated and the block is plugged in and a trickle charger is installed - and it's parked on these blocks designed to eliminate flat spots on the tires
It had road legal agricultural tires on it (supposed to be good in snow and rain and mud and off road)
The tires were dry rotted and no holding air - one would not form and hold a bead with the rim
We ordered an identical appearing set of tires made with modern materials from coker on line and they were delivered via ups
It's a weird rim size and a weird tire size and we wanted to keep it stock instead of putting on new rims that would take easier to find wider tires
We keep the truck on Martha vineyard
Coker was good to deal with and the prices were reasonable
I am more concerned about the Mitsubishi turbo engine (it's a tractor engine) but there is a dealership right before you leave the mainland and get on the ferry that specializes in Mitsubishi's and has been there since the 70's - he says he can service the engine and get parts
It's a bit of an orphan truck with options only offered for 2 years
Manual hubs and front and rear lockers so you get true 4 wheel drive
Neat granny gear and an overdrive
White and orange stacked headlights

Thought about it a few months back but decided it was much better to maintain my relationship with my tire dealer than save a few dollars. The difference wasn?t much and if I need something he always takes care of me. I think the difference in my four Michelin tires was like sixty dollars and all I had to do was show up and less than an hour later was on my way. 0 -
All is great until your tires arrive and they are not the right size. My advice is to make sure they pay shipping if you have to return. 0 -
Search Craig?s list I can buy a new set of factory wheels and tires with less than 100 miles for under 500.00 for my Tacoma anytime I want. I have found them as low as 200.00 with 1000 miles on them. 0 -
I've bought used tires on eBay for my kids car, local place would mount them for $15 each. Worked out well. Did the same for sidewall damage to my wife's suv...no problems. 0 -

I buy my tires from a locally-owned and run shop. I end up paying about the same amount that I would if I were to order them online and then have them mounted.
I can just see me showing up at a tire shop with four tires that I bought somewhere else. "Yes, I bought them elsewhere, but will you please mount and balance them for me?" Probably not. Just seems like bad manners to me.0 -

I agree. I have built up a good work relationship with my guy.
But I have actually been there when he told a customer they could go to tirebuyer.com, buy their tires, and have them shipped to him for mounting.
He did give me some take-offs that fit my F250 he was going to discard. They had a lot of life left.0 -
I've always used discount tire with good results. Bought tires and had them shipped to one that didn't have what I wanted. No problem. 0 -
Bought tires for my dually one time online. Had them installed locally. They sent blems and those tires vibrated regardless of balancing and would not go over 35 mph. Went to a tire dealer and bought 6 new ones and sent them back. Dealer was of the same make tires. He told me it goes on all the time, the price online is too good to be true.. 0 -
Discount tire worked well for me. I have to mount them at the truck shop though.
Couldn't beat Pep boys installed for the Escape with the rebates they gave me.0 -
Tire Rack has the best website. Discount Tire has the best prices -but you have to buy around a holiday as they have huge 'sales-rebates'.
I have usually used Discount Tire with no regrets.
I've talked to the local shop & he admits that he can't come close to online prices. But he did say he is happy to mount them - he still gets something out of it.
I was about ready to buy our last set from Walmart. Had them in the 'cart' with a delivery date that was good. Went to 'check out' and the delivery date changed by close to a week.
Got the same tire from Amazon quickly, a little cheaper and had local guy mount them.0 -
And I do totally get the 'buy from local dealer' idea. That is best if they have the tires you want at decent prices, or if you simply have a relationship with them & want to support them regardless.
I've moved too many times to have built a relationship and the local shops have very limited selection on tires. They want to sell me a Mastercraft (or equivalent) 40,000 mile tire for the same price as an 80,000 mile, top of the line tire from somewhere else.

I live in the country and don't have what I consider a local tire guy.
There is a shop about 15 miles away that sells tires. They get $80 to mount a tire whether you buy it from them or bring it in. You read that correctly $80 per tire for mounting and balancing.
I buy my tires online and use my friends tire machine to mount them. And an old fashioned bubble balancer works fine..0 -
I prefer to buy tires from the local shop. Girlfriend and I have 3 vehicles and we drive a lot, so we give a lot of business to the local shop in the small town here.
But in winter we use studded snow tires. These local shops do not want to sell studded tires. Not sure why.
So I buy studded tires from tiresbyweb.com
These guys are great! Have bought 5 sets of studded tires from them over the years, at $620 apiece a lot of money. Then we take 'em down to the local guy to be installed costs 60 bucks.
tiresbyweb is great, always has shipped the proper tires, shipped promptly, never had a problem with them. Of course they sell regular tires also.0 -

Damn, and I thought we are getting raped around here, at $20.00 mount/balance.
There's not a thing wrong with an old bubble balancer either. If you take a little time, they can be VERY accurate.
Spin balancers are faster, and being that they spin the tire/wheel assembly, you can check for bent wheels, or tire separation issues.0 -

Yes, the tire Rack.
After I bought them I wished I hadn't. Not that they're bad tires or anything. But you can't buy road hazard with them. So if you happen to run over something that blows out your tire, or you get a flat tire, or you want to rotate your tires you have to pay for all that yourself...
Otherwise the tire Rack is very reputable online tire dealer, and you can get tires a little bit cheaper than you can over town.
Also keep in mind that you have to pay to have them mounted, which is usually right around $20 each. I still came out money ahead buying from the tire Rack, and having them mounted locally ( a used tire shop gladly Mountain mine) . But again like I say, you can't get road hazard, so you have to replace any damaged tire yourself out of your own pocket oh, there's no free rotations like you get with road hazard coverage, and you don't get free flat repairs.0 -

I wanted to replace the tires on my truck with the exact tires that i got when i bought the truck. They are actually a touring tire instead of a light truck tire. I called around town and they were in the $180 range. I went to Walmart.com and they were $160. Next day went to Walmart and asked them to special order me the tires since it was on their website, but not a stock tire in their stores. The clerk said for me to order them online and have them shipped to the store. That it would be cheaper for me to order them, than it would be for her. It didn't make sense to me, but i did it. Went back online and the price had dropped to $140 per tire.
I get an email after two or three days that the tires had arrived. I drive to Walmart and add the road hazard and lifetime rotation. They mounted them for free since i ordered through the website. Got the exact same tires as the originals for cheaper than anyone else in the area. I was happy.0 -

I think how you do it makes a difference. No different than buying firearms online I call upfront and ask what they'd charge to mount/balance tires I bring in. Each time I tell them I'm shopping used and best price to at least give them a shot. In the case of my kids car the chinese brand was still more than name brand.
Last two new sets were bought local, shopping around I found prices to be as close and like the idea of a local shop for warranty.0 -
I buy our tires at Wal-Mart so if were on the road and have tire trouble there seems to be a Wal-Mart in every town.
Not many Sam's or Costco on the road0
