While I do not purchase Nike products and most likely never will, we must all remember that their marketing department had to have taken into account the pros and cons of this move.
The majority of the pissed off public will be older white males who most likely never bought their product anyways. No loss in revenue for them there. But the outcry about the move is free advertising for Nike. Everyone is talking about it.
The majority of the people who purchase their products are younger millennials who honestly feel that what Kapernik did was right and just. They will continue to buy and most likely will purchase more to show support. No loss of revenue and potential increase.
They did not go into this blindly IMHO.0 -

Just great, I didn't think I ever bought or owned anything Nike until I went to their page to try and leave a message. Seems they now own Converse, I USED to love my Chuck Taylors and have worn them since High School. Won't be able to buy anymore now.

No idea of how this will turn out - the marketing decision by "Dicks" hasn't exactly created vast new markets.
I have doubts that there are a big bunch of 20-somethings that are Nike stockholders. I'm not but if I were and dividends dropped - I would be at the next stockholders meeting - looking for the scalps of those in London tailored suits or red Prada dresses and Guicchi shoes.
