There is not much you can do to change a persons mind. When i was a kid i went through a very very hard and dark time.
We were all out celebrating winning a football game and having a good time and a very good friend of mine told all of us he was going home and killing himself. We all laughed and thought nothing about it. We found out later his girlfriend had broken up with him.
When he told us he was laughing and having a good time. 1 hour later he was dead. When we all went out i was the one that looked after everybody because i did not drink or do drugs. What he did bothered me for years. I felt i should have been able to tell he was serious.
Instead we just laughed it off.

It is really hard to tell. What if you had gotten others involved and he was just Joking. 0 -
Hi Dave. Thank you for sharing your story. I would like to apologize to you for my cutting into your earlier post. I have been holding my friends death inside and when I started to make a reply of condolence, it just poured out through the keyboard! 0 -
Joel, best to get it out in some form or other. If that means sharing with others here, so be it. Keeping things bottled up, as you have found, can be very destructive. With few exceptions, when an event like that occurs, those left behind may always wonder if there was anything they could have done. This is a perfectly natural reaction to an unnatural situation. The reality is that no one can ever know what is going on in the mind of another, especially in an event where someone takes their life. Beyond that, the thought process some tortured souls are experiencing, even if you could read their thoughts, may not seem at all logical to those around them. Many times there are no real answers for those left behind. Coming to grips with the unexpected, possibly unexplainable, death of another can be a long and tortuous path. Talking/sharing with trusted others or a professional can help ease some of the pain. 0
