Worth repairing?

I posted a while back, I was having a leak issue with my hot water heater. It is a tiny pin hole leak, at the top, where the power cords exit the heater.

I've just been turning the incoming water valve off and killing the breaker, unless I need it.

I'm wondering about using some Gorilla glue (water aids in setting) to apply around the leak area. Which would be dry on application.



I'm sure I will catch hell for this, but I'm A cheap Bassturd. I do not see why it would not work.

    Really not worth the hassle of trying to repair it IMO. The Gorilla glue fix just isn't going to hold.

    Your water heater (not hot water heater, just water heater) should be replaced. I just installed one in my sons house for $300. It was a 40 gallon, so you will pay a little more for a 50 gallon or larger.

    If it's already glass lined and leaking it is junk. If you leave the house one day you will come home to a big leak!

    I thought your hot water heater was a 55 gal. drum painted black and hung up in a tree. Did you get running water in your tee pee??

    As above--get it replaced. Thank me later unless you don't replace it.

    A friend of mine had a small leak in his,,,and he woke up at 04:00 with water at his feet. Whole house had water in it. Complete redo.[B)]

    If the water is already HOT, why are you heating it?

    How's the 'bent' blade on the mower?

    Junk it before you have a flood. Junk it, now. I can about guarantee your insurance deductible is more than a new heater which is what you will be paying if you keep trying to limp that one along. Not to mention the hassle.

    Put it on your front porch and let your dog chew on it.[;)]

    replace it I am sure you could do it on your own maybe a little help moving the tanks in and out ,

    oh just skip a buying a gun from Ricci this month I am sure he will understand [}:)] maybe give you one like buy 10 get one free [^]

    Having plumbed for years take my word for it REPLACE IT NOW. Patching it will not work, unless you want to wake u to an indoor swimming pool

    Why yes, that will fix it and put some duck tape over the gorilla glue.

    Then make sure your House insurance is up to date
    and get your ammo up high so as it will stay dry.

    Replace it now,while the cost is only that of the water heater. It will cost much more when it lets loose,or shorts out,or,,,,Quit being so cheap. You're standing on a dollar to pick up a nickel.

    I pretty much knew the answer. I was just looking to take heat.

    The slapping duct tape over the gorilla glue made me laugh.

    Might ask Phil Swift if his flex tape will seal hot water while it's spraying. (like he shows on TV repairing the water tank leak)

    Be sure Phil Swift understands that the leak is at the top of the Hot Water pressure tank where their is no pressure.[;)]

    I'm sure you have some bullets Ken, just pull them all and melt the lead down, pour about 5 lbs of lead down over the top of the water heater and the leak should be sealed, if it still leaks put glasses on and look close to make sure it is really leaking or if the dog is peeing on it..........

    Sure just make sure your insurance policy has a specific provision about prior knowledge of dangerous conditions and make sure the insurance adjuster sees the large clump of gorilla glue and please get any important papers and books, guns up off the floor.

    I'm surprised that no one suggested you make sure your drain pipes are clean and clear, but Mr P was on vacation.

    A typical flow rate for a home is 5 gallons a minute.

    You haven't indicated if you are on a well or city hook up.

    The up side to a well is that the pump might give up the ghost after running flat out for an extended period of time.
