    The xp100 had the grip in FRONT of the action to help with recoil. Can you imagine firing one of those in .308 more than a few times? Aesthetically that thing is hideous, functionally, it looks even worse.

    Every now and again I get a wild hair wanting a XP100 with the bolt for a lefty operators, so I don't change grip. And have 3 round capacity.

    Now this new "pistol" might fit the bill but I do have questions. Like Jewel Trigger fit? Will the safety work? Could I just buy the receiver for a build? And do they make a lefty?

    I like Rems but this looks like an answer to a question that was never asked.

    If you sit at a bench and wait for the deer to walk across the range, it might work, but where I hunt the likelyhood of a rested bench shot is 0

    We have had a few Ceasefires at the local range cause of deer wondering on to it.

    That's what bipods are for. Hunted with XP's for years and have never had to drag a bench out to the field. One deer on my wall was taken at 320 yards with an XP in 7mm-08 using a bipod. I'd say that's good enough...

    As for the new CP pistol...not the prettiest gun I've ever seen but I bet it'll shoot just fine. I could do without that mag hanging down also. I'd prefer a floor plate in a repeater for hunting purposes.

    The later XP 100s used a rearward grip stock. I have a fair number of larger calibers for my T/C Encore pistol - 350 Rem Mag, 375 H&H, 405 Winchester, 45/70 and such. A 308 with a decent length barrel is no problem for recoil. I have a 15" barrel with no brake, it's pretty easy shooting. Same in an 8mm Mauser - WWII ammo makes one hell of a muzzle flash. [:D]

    Trick is, you've got to get a solid grip but "limp wrist" a bit during recoil - not too much, just enough to roll with it.
