I've got an apple pickin' buck in the yard.

A little forked horn (4 point for you eastern boys) is under the apple tree in my back yard. It's about 30 out my back door. Anyway, this little fella was tryin' to get the apples off the tree. I watched him for a couple minutes while he'd stand on his back legs and stretch as far as he could to get an apple but he wasn't quite tall enough. All of a sudden he jumped straight up, all four feet in the air, and plucked one off the limb! He's done that a couple times now. Wish I could get some video but it's too dark yet and I think I'd spook him if I tried to slip out.

    I know the deal.

    I have a large Pear tree and between the deer and the squirrels I have never eaten a pear from it. I get lots of apples, cherry's and some peaches from my fruit trees but no pears.

    I guess they really like them or maybe its because it is closest to the wood-line.

    They have killed every fruit tree we have ever planted. Everytime it gets some leaves they will eat it.

    I even tried putting a small fence around the trees but they will press it down.

    I told my wife i could hunt in our yard since i am in the country and she just gave me the look.

    We had several apple, one peach and a pear tree in one of the houses we owned years back. The apples we generally got plenty of to the point I hauled pick up loads elsewhere and fed 'em to the deer, but the peaches and pears all fell victim to the damn raccoons. Hated those little buggers.

    Yeah, that's gonna go over real good with my wife the cop. No license, no tag, hunting out of season, and discharge of a firearm/bow in the city limits!! Whoo doggy![:0][:0]

    We have 3 bucks, 2 doe and 4 fawns that have enjoyed the windfalls from our apples and pears- found a couple of fawns trying to stand on their hind legs to reach a pear on the tree. Do not begrudge them some fruit- but damned raccoons will take it all if I let them- AND destroy the sweet corn.

    Rifle? Crossbow? Hell, I could use a 3 iron on these deer! Expect to find them on the back deck checking out the hanging flower baskets.
