Get to go to the DMV

to get a regular driver's license or the "real ID". I got until next ear to do this. Yay me. Since I don't plan to ride an airplane or go in to a federal building. I suppose I wouldn't need the real ID if I were linked up [:D]. I wonder if the county court needs a real ID?

So here's my question. Do I need this real id to buy a gun? Being in California, maybe? Not that the DMV say squat on this. Hate to get the regular license and later I'll need the real id to buy ammo.

    told me I would need the real ID to get in social security office, I wondered if I didn't have it if I could get out of jury duty since couldn't go in court house?????

    In most cases, you need a state DL to buy a gun. So, when your current DL is replaced by a real ID DL, then you will need one to buy a gun. Same for driving a car or withdrawing money from your bank.

    Be sure that you carefully read the "proofs" you need to bring with you to DMV. If you don't have everything, they will send you away.

    If you are a vet have that marked at the same time. The ID is accepted most places and its a hell of a lot easier to get than the one from the VA

    From what I understand, The "Real ID" is your Passport also.

    nmyers - It's not being replaced. It's either or so the illegals can get a driver's license. Or so when the cops stop you they can know with the "real id" you're a citizen. Being that to get the "real id" you need to bring in a birth certificate. I hope obama can get one with is "live birth" certificate [:D].

    I got one. They had me remove my glasses for the photo and hold my head just so. I'm sure part of the deal is that my mug is now in facial recognition software.

    You can get a non operator drivers photo ID card...

    Went to the DMV since I had the money for the renewal and I figured most people would be flying out of town for Christmas or busy shopping for it. Got there a little after 0930 and by the front door a table was set up for a siege. Since the line wasn't out the door and half the seat open I thought why not? The "Gatekeeper" asked if I had an appointment or not. I said no and she made me fill out name, phone number and reason for visit.

    Filled that out and she made me go to the computer to fill out the info. Since I hadn't moved or anything they'd just make me take an eye exam be done. Oh but no. Go to the computer [V]. I did change my weight since I was there filling it out. To 240 last time I checked a few months ago while on "The White Feather Diet". Come to think of it I might weigh less?

    It asked me if I was a "citizen" yes, no or wished not to answer. You know what I answered. Yup "wished not to answer". Give me a dumb ass option like that they'll get what they ask. The DMV over reaches it's bounds.

    Got looking at the eye chart while dude checked on to see if I came in too early? My license expires in February. I'm thinking why send out the notice to show (for me in November) so early then? Anyways the eye chart was kind a fuzzy but manageable but since I got the glasses use them.

    Paid, dude punched a hole in my license and gave me a paper license for the cops when I get pulled over. I asked dude if I could still buy booze with my holed license [:D]? He said yeah but carry the paper. I "should" get my new one I about a month. That's why I went to sort this out before my license expired.

    Got back to the car at 1010. Done.

    A Passport to use if you are flying to some place in the USA from the USA and to enter from Canada or Mexico. But other countries will still need a passport.

    I kind of see a problem with that.

    And you need "real ID" to file a tax return.

    Where did you see this. Know you need to show proof of SSN to get the ID.

    Grumpy- from my tax return last year. When I was doing electronic filing.

    Gunny- possibly due to the state- I am in Virginia, file state income taxes. Definitely remember it because I had to get my wife's ID to get the numbers off the card.
