savage model 64 22 ?

I bought the above and want to shoot CCI quiet 22 in it because of my dogs don't like gun fire
problem is, it will not cycle. it just stove pipes.
I was told to remove the recoil spring from the bolt and replace it with a lighter spring or cut a coil or two off.
I watched 3 videos. one showed the pin and spring falling from the bolt. one said it was pressed in. the other said it was pressed in but should not be removed due to head space.
I am looking for experience if this issue can be fixed.
I know I can shoot a higher velocity 22 ammo that will function, but it is to loud
any help appreciated

    If you can find a reduced power spring, that would be best. I wouldn't cut the original spring until you have found a replacement for it.

    As for the pin. If it isn't pressed in and is at risk of drifting, press it out about .010"-.015" give the exposed end a tiny bit of high strength Loctite and reset it.

    Since I'm not familiar with the tolerance inside that action, I'm loath to suggest staking the pin at each end. That and the Loctite is easier to undo.

    I realize you did not ask about another gun, but if you can latch on to a Remington 550-1, they are one of the few guns that WILL cycle with CCI CB Longs. Different chamber design.

    Was using one at the range, guy stopped by with a real puzzled look- asked "Where is the suppressor?"
