  Here is a start for you- http://www.allaboutenfields.co.nz/history/markings/
  
  I do not claim expertise on British rifles- but the important marks indicate it was through the Fazakerly Arsenal in Liverpool, and went thru the Factory Through Repair (FTR) program- basically a depot level rebuild. Some of the marks were from when made, some from the 1st (and possibly 2nd) trip thru depot. Other marks can be proofs, and "sold out of service" marks.
  
  Enjoy- those are the history of that rifle. One of my SMLEs bears a VR stamp- for Victoria Regina- Queen Victoria. [:p]
