Hiring Workers
Anybody else having a hard time Hiring and retaining new folk. Seems they stay on just a couple of days and quit. Work is too hard.
Funny thing is e have done a bunch in the last two years to make it easier to work here. Adding a bunch of Hoists to do the lifting.
Kind of weird to they either have almost 20 years here of a couple of days. Folks that have been here love it. Me I have right at 4 years.

One of my jobs is part time in retail. Almost no one under 30 stays at the store a month. They leave for jobs that pay better and/or have a more regular schedule. 0 -

Who can blame them ?? That's pretty smart in my opinion....shows they've got ambition....which is good [:)]0 -
A friend put an ad in a local paper. Even though the paper screwed up & offered $40/hr, he received only 1 call. Problem was that you had to be able to read a tape measure & overtime was mandatory. 0 -
When i worked in the shop, most of our arguments were overlack of overtime.
Last few years, when i was supervisor, i had to beg the younger guys to work over.
Saturday or Sunday? Forget it.

I respect the hell out of anyone doing retail jobs. At best they suck, no set schedules, done on purpose to encourage employee churn. Lousy pay with almost no incentive to do better, blocked holiday schedules where time off is verboten. No top of that heavy handed unrealistic management that is deeply clueless. Upper management flies in in 3 million dollar helicopters. They invade like rats with with blindfolds on dictating changes that cost money and improve little. It seems retail is oblivious to the changes in our society over the past 50 years. It is why many are going bust like JC Penny, Sears and Toys are us.0 -
I did 40 years a Krogers, saw the change coming about 10 years ago and each year it has gotten worse, we don't even have people show up at open interviews anymore. have had people say they can only work during day time, no weekends, as they are on home confinement.
Had a bread vendor pass away and the company Flowers, tried to fill his job, they had to buy their own routes, I asked a supervisor one day what it would cost it had been over a month since the fellow passed away, he gave me the price or round about figure then told me they had had over 2500 !!!! applicants for the job but either they couldn't get the money for a loan, or couldn't pass the drug test, he said they actually had people show up without a drivers liscence wanting to run the route for a few days to see what was involved.0 -

We used to call those "sea gull visits". That's when the corporate execs fly in, make a lot of noise, crap all over everything, then fly away.0 -

My point being that they know the pay scale and how scheduling works at the interview - they shouldn't take the job if they don't plan on staying.0 -
We work overtime so little so that is not a problem. The only folks they ask to work overtime is those of us on salary. 0
