Golden Gate Bridge Alignment

Does anyone have any references as to the procedure used to make accurate measurements , distances. elevations and alignment when constructing the Golden Gate Bridge?

    Despite its tremendous size, nothing more than standard surveying techniques were used. With basic field operations involving linear and angular measurements using (gasp) geometry and trigonometry, and known distance, the surveyor converts these measurements to the horizontal and vertical relationships needed to produce plans for all types of engineering projects, including bridges. I am a retired civil engineer and I marvel at that bridge

    I will add that surveyors, who are the first step in any civil engineering project, seldom receive due credit for their hard work, which often takes place under harsh conditions.

    Studied that in High school. Had a drafting class and they showed why Math is needed. Now when I was in school we had none of the fancy tools we have now.

    One that I can say I've seen is graders that use GPS to grade the final finish. Stuff the engineers would have to stake out and mark. Is not really needed anymore.

    This reminds me of back when my brother did major government surveying work on several large projects and when in the early 70's Texas Instruments first came out with those small hand held calculators making his job alot easier he was a very happy camper [:D]. When they first appeared they were somewhere around $450 which was big money back then [:0], now similar calculators with the same functions are around $30 or less.

    If you set up your phone right it will do most of it too. My Current phone is way better than my 1st computer.
