quote:Hundreds of protesters filled the steps and the front sidewalks of the Federal Courthouse in downtown Eugene on Thursday evening.
The protest was one of hundreds of Indivisible protests in response to President Trump asking Jeff Sessions to resign, and appointing Matt Whitaker as the acting Attorney General.
Anywhere from 300 to 500 people, like Andrew Walp, took to the Federal Courthouse to make their voices heard.
"We are experiencing obstruction of justice in plain sight, and it's only going to get worse until the American people stand up and demand accountability," Walp said.
These protesters said President Trump is abusing his powers as President by appointing Matt Whitaker as acting Attorney General.
A man Patty Hine with 350 Eugene said has openly discussed strategies to stop Robert Muller's Russia investigation.
"The only reason they're appointing him is so he can defend the president on that one particular issue," Hine said. "That's not what you do with appointees. You have them because they can do the job."
At the protest there were plenty of cheers and boos as speakers talked about the eight key points they wanted to make.
Specifically that President Trump isn't above the law, like these protesters said he believes, and that Muller's investigation needs to continue without hindrance.
"I'm hoping that what will happen is that the Muller investigation will be completed, and we'll finally get to find out what this is all about," said protester Brian Gorrin.
At this point, the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election has led to 35 indictments.
Protesters said they want the Russia investigation to remain independent, and that they don't believe it will if Whitaker does not recuse himself.
