    Nice. I'll bet there are crap ton of streets name after Gunny on Marine bases. If not, that's just so wrong.

    Actually a lot do not like him. Who gets GySgt after they get out. He had a Medical Discharge as a SSgt. Years later the Marine Corps gave him Honorary GySgt. I had to earn it.

    I know it was an "honorary" rank but the man (later in life) had much pride/love for the corp.

    He acted that way, but then he WAS an actor. Talked to him on one occasion. He wasn't completely clueless, but he wasn't far off. Didn't know what a FAC was, as one example. Blank stare. Instead of a knowing answer, he'd just OO-rah.

    If Palmdale spells their street R. Lee Emmery (sic) they are just about as clueless.

    Did they have FAC in his days in the corps?

    I wonder if the cross walk will have his voice telling folks to walk or stop? March you maggots! Halt, what is your major malfunction, numbnuts?

    I'd get a GPS if Gunny's voice was directing the way.

    I've no problem with the man, he never lied about who h was or what he did in the service and always showed a great deal of respect and reverence for our troops. Even in this day as an active duty Navy Flyer I can assure you there are still plenty of Marines, Sailors, and Soldiers who do not know who a FAC is, or exactly what they do despite the somewhat descriptive job title. They know how to do what they are trained for and not much more. During his day I imagine it was a even less know occupation.

    I had to go thru training to be able call in Arty fire. But then I worked at Las Pulgas on Camp Pendelton Home to Arty.

    But it is a whole other thing to call in Air Support.
