Except "Cylinder lock up is nice and tight. Gun only works in double action. It will not hold back in single action."
I will clean it up and test it if it still does not work off to my gunsmith it will go.0 -
I believe H&R made some revolvers that were double action only.

You probably already know, but I?ll remind you just in case to save you some frustration. There are several .32 caliber cartridges for pistols (revolvers) and they aren?t interchangeable. This one is a .32 S&W AKA .32 Short. Don?t let the name ?H&R? suck you into buying .32 H&R Magnum thinking .32 H&R should fit in an H&R .32. In other words the only round this gun uses is the .32 S&W.
This gun was intended to be a point blank self defense gun (belly gun), so it is possible it was intended to be double action only.0 -
The internet information on your gun is all over the place and makes me wonder if what I already knew might not be correct.
On the Smith & Wesson forum some say the gun is chambered for .32 S&W and some say it?s chambered for .32 S&W Long and others say it?s designed to shoot both.
If the .32 S&W Long fits in the cylinder without protruding out the front it is probably safe to use either .32 S&W or .32 S&W Long. I would just use what is marked on the gun.

I already have a H&R 733 Just a Nickle version of the 732. This one I have not fired yet. But I do have several Boxs of 32 to include 32 auto since I have a Derringer that fires that.
So if you did a search you would have found that even the auto 32 seems to work in the 732.
So I will need to use extreme care when loading this one and my other. I do also have some 32 magnum but no gun to use that.0 -
PS will not be a carry gun. Have a couple .380 and a .45 for that. 0 -

Just took out the 733 and tried some ammo in it. The 32 H&R is too long and will not fit. There is a step in the chamber that keeps the Round from seating fully. Heard about that in one of my searches. So sounds like I need to find a S&W to fire the 32 H&R. Now that could get real confusing.

I have an old H&R .32 S&W top break. These little guns only weighed 13 ounces and were light weight pocket guns about 100 years before it became fashionable to make light weight pocket guns. 0 -

Well I got it. No Single action Like was described. But the Cylinder hangs while opening and closing so something else is also wrong. Also all the screws are bunged up so It had been apart.
Picked up a Master gunsmith screw kit from Pachmayr and a screw driver set from Wheeler.
Time to pull it apart.
Had to add Just cleaned the Extractor and behind it and the cylinder problem is corrected. It was not fully seating.0 -

That is a cool old gun and should be fun to shoot.
BTW my Grandma carried a Colt Pocket Positive in her apron for years. She had it on her person every day.
I saw he shoot several snakes with it and a rooster that went crazy. She also pulled it on a guy who gave her crap in town.
This was in New Albany MS in the 60-70's.
When my Dad put her in the nursing home he gave her a cap gun that looked like it so she could sleep.0 -
Also the grips were glued on One screw worked fine. But one I think was just glued cause it was stripped. I think just the screw was that is why I'm trying to find taps. 0 -
like the h&r top break...do NOT like the swing out cylinders because the barrel is pinned in a thin short frame ...a weak point... 0 -
