Riding Mower ?

I have a Ariens riding mower made by Husquvarna that is or 3 years old.

Yesterday when i went to start cutting the grass the mower would not go forward or back.

My land is really hilly so i thsideought the drive belt could be worn out. So i looked under the mower and the belt was good.

However i saw the left rear wheel was covered in grease/oil on the inside of the tire.

I am guessing the axle seal is messed up. My ? is what does the inside of the rear end look like and are the parts shot?

    On one of my riding mowers the starter will spin but will not kick up and engage the flywheel.

    No teeth are missing on the flywheel or starter gear.

    any idea?

    Time for a new mower. This Honda is not only fast, it's the fastest in the world. Actual mowing speed is much slower.

    Sounds like the disconnect at the rear has been pulled out. Push it back in.

    I just bought a new Husquvarna 24 horse rider back in May. I had to replace my 20 year old Simplicity Regent 16 horse.

    Dave, about all I can tell you is that these "horses" have truly whimped out in the last 20 years!

    The 24 has a lot less power and the hydro drive seems to jump erratically when engaged. The lever that takes your "transmission" out of drive mode so you can push it or tow it in neutral is in the back end and should be easily found. The owners manual shows fairly good pictures.

    When you buy a mower the most important thing is the trans axle. If you want a good mower that will last pay extra and get a good heavy one.

    hustler brand...60" super z at country home and 48" raptor SD at lake place....home about 5-6 acres....TOUGH machine and made BETTER by addition on both of Grammer mechanical air suspension seat...smoooooth

    As you stated It sounds like the axle seal failed and you lost the fluid. It is probably a Tuff Torq K46 hydrostat. They are not "serviceable " and are not known for their longevity or durability. Try to fill the unit with oil and replace the seal, you may need to remove it from the mower to do so.

    Mulligan's parts supply is the cheapest I have found for replacement hydros and parts. Good luck.

    The manufacturer says it isn't serviceable, but it is. Tuff Torque sells parts to rebuild them. You can contact Derrick Dalton at tuff torque, he was very helpful with an issue I had.

    The thing in the back to put the mower in neutral is in the right position. I took it out and put it in gear 5 or 6 times.

    Can you see where the pulley on top of the trans axle is. If you can reach it try to rock it in all Directions. Mainly pull against the belt. If it moves its shot.
