Trump's fault AGAIN
just heard on the news it going to cost calif. residence's $20,000 more to rebuild their houses because of Trump's lumber tariffs. What? Why? living in Mississippi and this state being at 60% timberland, why do we need to import lumber. the entire south is full of pine timber and we import lumber. that is totally ridiculous.

A hell of a lot comes from Canada. The lumber from the south for some reason goes to Veneer or Pulp. Plus the lumber from the south is mostly pine. The lumber they like to use in Houses is Fir.
Now if you really want to hear them crying wait till December. When they go to buy their Christmas tree's. Most are dead cause of the lack of rain.0 -

But how much can they really cut. Still have the idiots out there who take them to court and win. We have lost a bunch of mills in this area. Even Weyerhaeuser Has stopped logging and even sold out some of their operations here.0 -

The Canadian timber industry is heavily subsidized by their gov't. Having lived on the front lines of the US timber industry for most of my working life, I say bring on those tariffs! It should have happened in 1988.
This county I'm in harvested a billion board feet of timber in 1988. In 2016 it harvested 250 million.
Besides $20K increase on a new house is nothing. Like tip money at the restaurant.0 -
Thinning our (US) forest for lumber to rebuild destroyed homes may just be the ticket we need, less trees to burn in wild fires, it's not natures way of woodland clearing but damn close [;)]. It'll also put many people back to work, loggers, saw mill workers, truck drivers, carpenters, supply clerks, etc. etc. 0 -

Thought I would bring this up I live near one of the large log sort yards. For several years this time of year it would be empty. The chance for a fire was not worth the risk of Logging. They have to do it at night cause of fire restrictions.
Well this year the Yard is still full and every Morning the Log trucks are lined up waiting for them to Open.
This place has been my Gage for how the economy is doing Empty Bad, full good.0
