Smells
OK I believe I read this somewhere if not here. I went to my dad's barn yesterday to get some stuff. He and mom went to FLA. till spring . As I entered the barn, an odor hit me square in the face. Not a stink or smell just an odor. Well it instantly took me back 20 or 30 years to stuff that went on in there. I had a moment of flashback that lasted about 15 minutes as I stood in the doorway alone . That was Weird. Anybody else?

The smells of the High Power firing line during rapid fire with shooters using 4895 in the Garand. Nothing quite like it, the unique odor stirs memories.
And, the smell of a shotgun shell after firing, that aroma is awesome.0 -

too many it seems to me smell triggers memories more than other senses
racing gas nitro ( right back to the race track )
oil / grease , working on cars /trucks what seems like forever
fresh cut wood has a lot of different memories
perfume certain ones any way flash back to dates of days gone by
even smell of a skunk [B)] washing dogs comes to mind
the smell after a spring rain after a dry spell
the smell of a new car ( although now they say its cancer causing )
fresh cut grass and hay / straw the smell of a all night drinking boiled egg chili fart in a car with the windows rolled up [:(!][:(!] ( (&%*()_)(^ from so called buddies [:0]0 -
Slight whiff of ammonia after letting off a burst from an M-60. 0 -

I admit that many smells do kindle memories. Some good and some not so good.
That wet dog sure does for me and especially the smell of a HOUND doggy! My old truck carried that smell for a good year after my ole Bessy was gone from this world![:)]
If I could buy that scent in a bottle, I'd pull out my wallet in a heart beat![8D]
Many here may not care much for that fire and brimstone (rotten egg) smell of burnt black powder, but I got that stuff into my bloodstream many years ago and just can't live without it![^]
There is an old wooden sign above the entrance to my old shooting clubs firing line. It reads.....HOOFHEARTED[:D]0 -
Put up building for WW Grainger and a bagle bakery was right next door! Man I can still remember those fragrant smells early in the AM[:D] 0 -
Not many will get this. The warehouse smell at Boot Camp. Some Army Surplus stores come close. 0 -
I regret that I won't be able to smell that power burning after the volley and the blowing of Taps but I hope if there are any liberal, left wing, communist, anti-gun snowflakes upwind they will get a whiff and know that a Patriot and Native Son of Virginia has gone to meet his maker. I'm partial to alfalfa in bloom.
Another was my first trip into Louisiana. I10 about 1:00am when I found m'self surrounded by a scent could almost be called heavenly. The dogwoods were in bloom.0 -
I have a couple of '06 rifles that are faster than normal. One of them is an old Savage "Super Sporter" that I got recently at a gun show. When my standard 150 gr. handload chronographed in the high 2900's in that rifle, I switched to 51 gr. of IMR4895 and that brought it down into the 2800's (50 gr. of H4895 gives about the same velocity). It appears the old classic loads still work just fine! 0 -
One other smell. Taking a snooze in a corn field and smelling corn getting ripe on the stalk in the fall. Knowing that a whitetail is bedded down near me and a sentry crow is cawing in the distance makes it complete. 0 -

I grew up in the Antelope Valley in the 60's that was all they grew there. The fair which went on Labor day week end instead of Bales of has it was bales of alfalfa every where. That smell reminds me of home.
Now here in Oregon they grow alfalfa on the eastern side and truck it to the coast. I see the the truck and smell them all the time.
But the dairy they were going to was closed down by the feds. This was a very big dairy.0
