Any body check their 401K
Seems everything that was put in in the last year was for nothing all gone. My Contribution, employer match and even the Profit sharing they put in.
Now I just have to follow what I told another where I work. Now is not the time to pull it out.
He is not so good with computer and I had to walk him thru the process of getting into his account. He lost way more than me.

I have most of my money in the 'safe' fund of my TSP. That part is doing OK.
The 'riskier' remainder has been taking a pounding.
Life goes on.
I am going to retire on my 63rd birthday....4 years and two weeks from today.
My retirement and TSP from this job are a very small part of my retirement plan so, I am OK with taking the risk and letting it ride.0 -
I'm lucky 60% of mine is in Mutual funds. Or it would have been much worse.
But for me 63 is 2 months away. Not planing to go out till 66. By then every loan I have will be paid off.
Unless the jeep truck snags me.0 -
Buying op in the making. 0 -
I was well on my way to 500K. You-know-who started tweeting about tariffs. Boom-40K gone instantly. That was in February. I thought, well now's not the time to move it all out of the C fund. But I should have seen it as an example of what was to come. In the TSP, the C fund is one of the more volatile ones. That's where alot of my money was. About 250K. I had been moving it into the less risk funds gradually. But now I'm stuck. I haven't looked at it since June. I don't want to see the loss and be reminded of how stupid I was. Every time I hear anything about the stock market it's loss and worse. I've got Social Security starting on Jan. 1. I'm going to work till I make most of the $17,600 I'm allowed to. At that point I'll turn in my retirement papers. 0 -

Stock have taken a beating, while it was near bottom, I bought more. It will take a while but it will climb out before it tanks again with the recession in 2020. 0 -

I am 30% in C....that is where I got hurt.
The rest is in G.
I will only have 14 years as a Fed when I retire so, FERS/TSP are not a huge part of my plan. Just a bit more cushion.0 -
I done very well in real estate..Hard assets and cash rule. 0 -
I got my yearly packet today. Someone here was mentioning "something medical" was a good performer a while back what was it? Kind a curious if Vanguard has it. I might move things about. 0 -
Our company got acquired by JCI, so now we get our 401k company match in February, instead of twice per month. So far my YTD is -3.93% [;)]
I am 51, I just raised my pretax contribution to 15%.0 -

Required to make withdrawals on my IRA add the value of the IRA today, plus the withdrawals and I'm slightly up since the day Trump took office.
Would be slightly down if I'd stayed 100% invested but put Half the IRA into "cash" a few months before the Nov. 2018 election. Had thought about just selling everything except gold and waiting to see the result, but didn't. [:(]
Usually Dec. is a good month for stocks, this year so far isn't. Hope the retail sales look good. If Amazon sales are NOT pretty darn good the market will move farther into correction territory.
Two weeks and counting, hope there aren't preliminary LOWER projections for Christmas sales.

I don't have a 410K but I believe it will bounce back pretty soon. China will fall in line. 0 -
Not going to look...my 457b has taken many hits this yer, pissed away my contributions plus some. [V] 0 -
I had most of mine in a safe fund back in the 90s making almost 7%.
My wife had all of hers in a stock fund making over 20% & was laughing at me. Then came a bust near the end of the century & she lost over 30% before she pulled the plug. She bailed at almost exactly the bottom. Just by pushing a button on the computer she single handedly turned the market around. Since then she won't consider anything but CDs.
I've tried to explain to her that all she lost was those massive gains she was so happy about. I suspect that if we could recreate the numbers that she probably came out just about where she would have been in a safer fund that paid much less.0 -

Personally this 10% correction still leaves us high in my opinion. Rates move up a they should and CDs with a 4% return wouldn't be bad.0 -
The rats won the house - what did ya think would happen to the market? 0 -
The market can't go straight up forever, it's not possible. Over time the trend is up, with corrections both minor and major thrown in. That's how it's always been, and will continue to be.
If you can't stand to see a temporary loss on paper, you really should take all of your money and put it in a CD, or a bank savings account,.....REALLY.0 -
Moved quite a bit into cash a couple of months ago at a relative peak and reinvested a few weeks ago during a dip.
Came out ahead, but mayhaps jumped back a little too soon.
Obviously it is nothing like Vegas. The bulk of the money that swings during these things are monies that folks have in mutual funds, including tax deferred accounts, pension funds, etc. Individual investors who bet it all on one stock or fund are playing it like Vegas and will win big on occasion, but need to understand the game they are playing.
If you want exponential growth in your investments, you are in the stock market. If you want linear growth or a safer place to store money, real estate and precious metals is where you are.
Frankly, the markets are what you want them to be, and a little thought and common sense goes a long way towards success.0
