My Blue Jays are back!!!

A virus wiped out the Blue Jays in my area a few years back. I never thought I would miss them. But I can honestly say pulling into my drive and seeing flashes of blue all over my back yard is a sight I missed!! Welcome back Blue Jays!!

    I always say that Blue Jays don't travel in a flock but in a gang. They remind me of a bunch of teenagers looking for trouble.

    Yeah, I agree with you, in many ways Blue jays can be a nasty bird but after going several years with no noise from the Jays and none of the blue color flying in and out of my cedar trees I did miss them.

    I'm 100% sure the other birds that nest in my yard (robins, doves, blue birds, wrens [2 varieties], cardinals, all kinds of sparrows and another 5 to 10 varieties I'm forgetting) never missed the Blue Jays for one minute!!

    I use to shoot the jays and mockingbirds screeching in the tree outside my bedroom window. Couple of years ago I was out on the patio having my morning coffee, and had a real pretty male bluejay land on the table 3ft from me. No fear at all like he had been some one's pet, never made a peep. Been a regular visitor for the last 4 or 5 yrs. Keeps the other jays and mockers out of my yard too.
    Last year he showed up with a female that never shut up. On the table for his morning hello, he would cock his head like he was listening to every word I said. I told him he needed to get rid of that nag before they both got shot. Showed up this year without her.[:D]
    If they keep their beak shut, anyone know what their normal lifespan is?

    Blue Jays we're the only animal I was allowed to shoot on sight with my BB gun when I was a kid.

    I'd be out squirrel hunting and waste the 3 shells in my shotgun whenever a few blue Jays would show up.

    Nasty birds That never met another critter they didn't torment.

    Growing up reading the books about Sammy Jay and all of his friends, I have always enjoyed seeing and hearing our local Blue Jays.

    True, they can be very annoying with their shrill sounds but out of all of the different bird species I have ever listened to, they have many variations with a few songs that are most pleasing!!

    Jays and magpies are corvids, same as crows. Very vocal and very intelligent.

    We have scrub jays and magpies out here. Talk about a din when they get excited!
