UPDATE: I was given a shotgun yesterday

My wife's brother's wife's grandfather used to own this WINCHESTER Model 25. Somehow they came up with the idea of giving it to me, so I didn't say no! [:D]
It's in good shape, although the safety is stuck in the "fire" position, which I guess is better than being stuck in the "safe" position. There's a couple of pitting spots and loss of bluing, and the stock has some blemishes, but nothing major.
As far as my initial, slight research tells me, this isn't much of a collector's item in the first place, so I may refinish the stock and re-blue the barrel to fix all the superficial stuff. I can at least make her a little more pretty!

If the bolt is locked then the bolt lock is in place? Maybe release the bolt lock and push the bolt back with a rod. If the barrel is off use a stout wooden dowel rod to push the bolt back. 0 -

The bolt lock release is already removed from the main housing via the trigger assembly. I'll try the dowel rod... Thanks!0 -
Here's pictures of the refinished stocks... Mere pictures don't do it justice!

Looks good, get it back together and make your own marks on it. 0 -

Despite recent inaccurate usage in social media and on TV gifted is an adjective not a verb. You were given a shotgun.
[:D]sorry pet peeve.
Very true, thanks for the clarification!
My dictionary says gifted is also the past tense of the verb gift.

That's excellent!! beautiful piece/[:)] 0 -
That fore end looks as it should. Being thin walled too much figure makes them susceptible to cracking. And that butt is a dandy. Quarter sawn with light unbroken fiddleback is the cat's meow in my book. 0 -

Very nice wood! 0 -
Winchester used some beautiful wood on their old shotguns. I had a '63 model 50 that had been painted green by some local yokel. When I got the paint off the walnut under it was tiger striped and looked like new.
Enjoy your new shotgun.0 -
Well done! 0 -

Are you putting the matches back where you found them?[;)]0 -
I hate nice guns for hunting I'm too careless. 0 -
Several years ago my brother gave me a Remington 31 in 16 gauge. It was his FIL's and in very good condition, but stock was scratched up. I refinished it and did a little touch up bluing. When I took the butt plate off it had been shimmed with a postcard. My brother knew the name on it as the person his FIL had got the shotgun from. It appears to be an order from the Army telling him where to report next, dated 1945. 0 -

Oh hell yes! That's part of the gun as far as I'm concerned.0
