Have had to tkae My $50,000 2017 Silverado in Twice in a Month for Rodent damage - one had been tearing into the ventilation system, ate the Cabin air filter and made a nest in there! We had been noticing that our eyes were irritated after every trip. Breathing crud from the filth.
GM is aware of the problem, but will not repair under warranty.
Has cost us over $400 so far.

Toyota is being sued for using soybean based coating on their wiring which allegedly attracts rodents to do massive property damage. 0 -
Was wondering the sound deadening material on my Cruze in the engine Compartment is almost gone, Normally I would look every where for a nest that has been built. But so far have not found one so they must be eating it.
Lucky for me they have not got inside yet so cabin is safe for now. But my 2000 GMC I have to watch close case it took me a while to clean up after the last time they made a home.0 -

The info I am finding seems to imply the soybean based wiring insulation, and the 'cabin' type insulation has been around since at least 2000 or so.
I guess we don't have rats or mice around here, since I've never had any of the above touched on my vehicles.[?]0 -
I have a nifty way to get rid of all of the vermin that inhabit my free standing garage (not attached to my house).
I just start up the car and close the garage door. Leave it running for an hour. Go back inside, quickly through the utility door, shut down the car and keep things closed up and locked overnight.
Next day, I open all the doors and windows and ventilate. Have to do a lot of carcass hunting, and find quite a few....mice, chip monks, and once a red squirrel. I can get away with doing this, living out in the sticks, no kids or grandkids visiting during my fumigation![:)]0 -

I will not buy another new GM product because all new GM vehicles will have that crap that GM calls 'stop start technology'. When you come to a stop light, the engine turns off, when you take your foot off the brake, the engine restarts.
I do have a 2017 Chevy SS sedan I bought new and love it. It's the last old school sedan Chevy made, V-8 (6.2 liter) and rear wheel drive.
No cylinder deactivation, no stop start crap, it's the last of it's kind....[8D]0 -

I looked at 2019 GMC Sierra trucks, there was no way to disable the stop start feature.
If there is a way, how is it done? My local dealer said disabling the stop start was not an option.0 -

For vehicles without that button, such as the 2016-2018 Chevrolet Cruze and 2017+ Cadillac XT5, deactivating GM?s engine stop-start on automatic transmission-equipped cars is nonetheless a simple matter. The easiest way to defeat the system is to drive with the shifter in any mode other than the normal ?D?. No, we?re not suggesting that you reverse your way to the grocery store. Instead, you can put the vehicle in whatever low-gear (?L?) or manual (?M?) mode option it has, and set it to shift through all the gears.
Such modes allow the automatic transmission to do its thing, with the driver setting a limit by selecting the tallest gear they want the transmission to reach. By selecting the top gear in the transmission, you?re allowing the transmission to shift into all gears as usual, but auto stop-start is deactivated because you?re outside of ?D?.
On that note, another quick fix is to select Sport mode, assuming the vehicle in question has one. GM?s auto engine stop-start isn?t active in Sport mode, although the driver should be aware that other settings on the vehicle ? throttle calibration, exhaust mode, suspension mode, shift scheduling, etc. ? can also change in Sport, possibly causing a further reduction in vehicle fuel economy.
Finally, if the driver wants to temporarily disrupt the engine stop-start system, he or she can quickly move the automatic gear selector into any mode other than Drive ? Low, Neutral, Reverse ? and then back into Drive to manually force the engine to kick back on. This can be especially useful if you?re waiting to turn out into a busy intersection and you don?t feel comfortable with the delay in thrust introduced by stop-start.

So far no Luck. Other makers have a way to toggle it off permanently. Some the dealer can do it and some the owner can program it in.
But it seems not Chevy.0 -
I don't suppose there is a fuse for the system? I imagine it will not be to long before somebody figures out a way to use a relay amd a couple of wires to make a permenant fix. 0 -
I have been plagued with rats in the cars for years.
They built nests in the heater/ac fan four times in my '98 Nissan Frontier. Pain in the ass to clean up. Didn't eat any wires, though.
Also they have built massive nests in the engine of my new Nissan Frontier.
Believe me I am taking steps to get rid of the GD rats. I have 11 electronic rat repellers installed in the past 3 weeks, in the basement, in the crawl space, and in the carport. GD rats!
Also have bought some bad ass "one bite and you are dead" rat poison from Amazon that seems to really slay 'em. I just use this rat poison in the basement I don't want to kill any raccoons or possums that may be around outside. The coons and possums can't get into the basement.
Also the rats built a massive nest in the girlfriend's 1982 Mercedes 240d in the carport, a year ago. Also chewed the wires pretty good in that car.
Damn rats.

The wife's 2018 Jaguar had a push button that would deactivate it, but you had to do it each time the car was started.
Permanent deactivation I am sure is possible, but would require a non-approved reprogramming of the ECM. A warranty violation I would think.
She ended up swapping it for a 2013 LR4 and some cash. A better vehicle with a naturally aspirated Ford 5.0 so a positive all around other than paying for the Jaguar in the first place.0
