Squirrel repelant question.

I breed Dutch rabbits and my hutches are set up to get maximum ventilation, which is another way of saying squirrels can easily get into my rabbit area. Most of the last 15 years I have had an occasional squirrel run through my rabbitry but they never caused any problems.


Until recently. A couple of squirrels have discovered that my nest boxes make real good places to sleep. The nest boxes are stored at head level. The squirrels sleep so good they don't wake up until I am walking by and they explode from a deep sleep literally 18 inches or less from my head!! OMG time to shake the poop out of my jeans!![:D]


This is bad enough but they have started to pee on things messing things up, not to mention it smells!! Shooting is not an option.

So what deters squirrels??

    Maybe human hair but the rabbits may not like it either. Maybe try a tighter woven wire over the ventilation holes.

    I have tried this stuff on some fruit trees, it works about 80%

    Milorgaite works a little.

    Squirrels are hard to get rid of. You may be able to trap them with a squirrel stick.

    Go to mink wire, 1/2 x 1" welded.

    Better yet a guard mink. I'd also look for solar powered chicken fence. It'll be like a bug zapper but funner.

    Your can try this- mesh bag with mint, rosemary, cinnamon.

    If that fails, get a pellet rifle- can give you a few recipes.

    The way we got rid of our squirrel population was with traps. I went to Tractor Supply and bought a couple of traps and then we went into the squirrel relocation program. Every couple of days I would take a box full of squirrels to a wooded area about 5 miles from our house and turn them loose.

    have a heart traps but you need to take them at least 10 miles from the
    place you catch them aaaaaai painted the tail of the first ones I caught 4 miles away they were back in 4 days[:(]

    I have a problem with rats building nests on the engine of my new Nissan Frontier.
    I bought an electronic rat repeller from Amazon for 28 bucks. Just plugged it in and it works like magic. Bye bye rats.
    If it works for rats it will work for squirrels.

    However I don't know if it would be bad for rabbits.

    I prefer a head shot with a .22 mag. ?

    Of course you said no shooting ???

    Turn them into pets ???

    Good luck : I have a benjamin pellet rifle that has don in a few ???

    Squirrels get in my deer feeder in my back yard.I don't mind them eating corn,but they eat the feeders too.I have been shooting them with an old Springfield 22 that I have had for 50 years,but every one I shoot,three take its place.

    I used "RED FOX "P" "cover scent from the ground up to about 6 feet on the trunks of my acorn trees... No more tree rats in those trees...

    Shooting is always an option even if it is a low power pellet gun.

    I've live trapped squirrels and transplanted them in the past. I'm not sure is thats A ok anymore.

    Best way to get rid of them if your not going to eat them; 12 gauge #4 shot.
