Have any of y'all lost a local channel because they didn't negotiate a contract with the local station?

    I have just had direct sattelite tv installed seems to be better than dishnetwork that I had before.They are advertising a DSL service here via satelite,I am tempted as no other DSL is offered in the area where I live only dial up.Any one else got internet via satelite is it any good.Would appreciate some info on this if any one has the same system.

    Never put that type of bill on autopay. It's a mistake almost always.

    Cut the cord a year ago. Dont regret it one bit. Have an OTA antenna and Amazon video.

    Direct TV did the same thing to me about 4-5 years ago so after 12 years as a customer, I ended it. Mounted a OTA antenna (about 35-40 free local channels) bought 2 Roku streaming devices (since then I bought a Roku equipped TV) and have all the TV channels anyone would ever want.

    Prime membership on Amazon includes the videos. Of course you'll need something like Roku to plug into your TV to stream the videos.

    My satellite internet service is only good for 50 (whatever) bytes and costs me 60 bucks a month for that.

    You need a minimum of about 10MBS download speed to stream movies, etc.

    I have Centurylink DSL with a maximum available of 10MBS for $45.00 a month. It works well for us; however, on occasion, the signal starts buffering so I have to back out of the channel and re-select before the signal returns. I wish 25MBS was available but isn't.

    James you can get a Roku set up, install it, set up your account. Roku has some free stuff ti watch and there are other free channels as well. Once you have it set up you can decide if you want to add other services. If would need Amazon prime to run their service and there are several others you can add if you chose. But you get the Roku set up just for the price of the initial equipment.

    Edit, you do need a wireless router and enough system to be able to stream the service. I have cable internet and a wireless router.

    I have Amazon Firestick and Hulu. I made my own OTA antenna and get more things than I can watch. Cut my cable bill almost $200.
    I bought Direct TV when it first came out, when you had to pay for equipment, about $700, and install it yourself. Got tired of price increases and down time and when receivers started to crap out they wanted to charge me for replacements. By that time they were giving away equipment so I said screw you I'm gone. I get offers from them every few weeks now but I will never go back.

    Internet streaming will kill the cable and satellite TV companies.They are heading the direction video rental stores went.

    That is probably true eventually,...but by the time they do it, your bill will be back to 150 bucks a month again. They know what the market will bear, and prices always seek out that level.

    The streaming companies are in the subscriber ramping mode now.

    I have Century link Computer service and a smart Sony TV with a wireless router. What do I need to get set up with Roku? I also have the great Antenea

    I have Dish, and HBO and Dish are in a fight. HBO has pulled out of Dish and they say they are trying to come to an agreement. HBO has suuuccked for a long time. The only thing I would watch is Game of Thrones.

    I stopped paying for TV over a year ago with ZERO regrets. They need me a lot worse than I need them.
