The Phantom of Interstate 12

About 3 years ago I noticed they cleared a little spot on I 12 just east of Baton Rouge. They poured a concrete pad.

I figured they were going to put in a mobile home.

But, no. Went by there a week later, and there was the Phantom of Interstate 12.

    love it man, i was in TAC and there were plenty of those aroung. that plane proves with enough horsepower anything can fly

    For three years, back in the early 80's, I lived right under the departure end of Clark Air Base in the Philippines. Boy, when they were holding a Cope Thunder exercise and 20-30 Phantoms were taking off at 10 second intervals you definitely could NOT sleep late that morning. Those afterburners could shake the paint off the walls. "Jet noise, the sound of freedom." [:D]

    That was my favorite Plane/Fighter, back in the day.

    I have always liked the weird limited production purpose built variants of the F4 phantom...

    Shout out to the XP-67 Moonbat and the phantom 1 and the banshee and the demon...

    reconnaissance - wild weasel - defense suppression - elint / prowler - FBW / canard foreplane - swing wing variable geometry - pave - pursuit - etc...

    Spent 2 years as a crew chief on F-4's at Shaw AFB back in the early 70's. These were all recon equipped (no armaments) using the at the time "state of the art" photo equipment in the forward compartment.

    The first flight of the F-4 was just after I was born in 1958. They built over 5,000 of them. it is one heck of an airplane.
